Rendell Transition

(Philadelphia) - Governor-Elect Ed Rendell began to lay out the groundwork for his administration yesterday. During a press conference at his Philadelphia campaign headquarters, Rendell named six people to head his transition team. As expected, Republican Barbara Hafer will serve as co-chair. Rendell says Hafer's appointment is an indication that he intends to avoid partisanship during the transition.

Joining Hafer are Steven Frobouck, John Fry, Arthur Makadon, San Staten, and Paul Tufano. Former Lieutenant Governor Mark Singel will head Rendell's transition executive committee. The remainder of the team should be in place within the next two weeks.

And so the Fast Eddie era begins. No partisanship my bottom. I'd wager he owes lots of people BIG TIME, and most of them will be RATZ or RINOS.

Anybody recognize any of the names?

Shuddering at the concept of Hafer snapping a thong...God help Pennsylvania.

Barbara Hafer is the turncoat Republican that endorsed Rendell over Fisher. I believe that she is pro-abort.

Maybe the Repubs that control the state house will take care of Rendell. Then again, my local Republican state senator thinks that farmland preservation (my tax dollars go to restrictive land use covenants for farms) is the best thing since sliced bread.

The GOP ought to call a press conference and announce that Barbara Hafer has had her RINO a$$ tossed from the party. Good riddance to RINO garbage.

Here's the story in the Trib...

Rendell names 5 from area

By Michael Hasch
TRIBUNE-REVIEW

Gov.-elect Edward G. Rendell has named five individuals with strong ties to western Pennsylvania to leadership roles in his transition team.

"I think it makes clear…that concerns that were raised during the campaign were obviously unfounded," said Joe Brimmeier of Fox Chapel, who was named Sunday as one of the deputy executive directors for the transition.

"Western Pennsylvania is well-represented on the transition team and will be well-represented in the Rendell administration," said Brimmeier, who served as chief of staff for former Congressman Ron Klink and as senior consultant for Rendell's campaign in the region.

Former state Rep. David Sweet, a Washington County native who served as Rendell's campaign manager, will be executive director of the transition.

Republican state Treasurer Barbara Hafer of Elizabeth, who supported Rendell in the election, and Fox Chapel businessman Steven Frobouck, a major campaign contributor, are among the six co-chairs on the transition team.

Lt. Gov. Mark Singel of Johnstown, Cambria County, will chair the transition executive committee.

"My goal is to have an open, inclusive and eclectic transition team, reflective of the type of government that I intend to build," said Rendell as he introduced the transition team leaders yesterday in Philadelphia.

"This type of broad-based transition team worked extremely well for me when I was elected mayor of Philadelphia in 1991, and I am confident that the structure will work again for me as I prepare to take office on Jan. 21."

Sweet, a former state legislator from North Strabane Township, said many more people from the region will be named to serve on executive committee groups that will focus on particular areas of interest during the transition.

"The transition will focus on two things. First, recruiting top-notch people to serve in major leadership positions in the administration," Sweet said.

"Second, to prepare in detail some of the policy proposals that Gov.-elect Rendell is going to want to present from Day One, economic development and property tax cuts," Sweet said.

Sweet and Rendell pointed out they have little more than two months to put together the new administration.

"The time factor is the biggest challenge," Rendell said. "I've been running for governor for almost two years, then I have 10 weeks to take over … but I'm going to try to get it right."

Sweet said the Legislature has appropriated $175,000 to help pay for the transition, but said the vast majority of the team members are volunteers.

Rendell named former chief of staff, David L. Cohen, as general chair of the transition.

Harrisburg native Leslie Ann Miller, past president of the Pennsylvania state bar and president of Philadelphia's Regional Performing Arts Center, will serve as the general counsel of the new administration.

Other members of the transition team include Franklin & Marshall College President John Fry of Lancaster; Philadelphia labor leader Sam Staten; former Philadelphia city solicitor Kenneth Trujillo; and Paul A. Tufano of Montgomery County, who served as general counsel under former Republican Gov. Tom Ridge.

Also, Arthur Makadon, chairman of Ballard, Spahr, Andrews & Ingersoll, the law firm where Rendell has worked since leaving City Hall; Sheila E. Dow-Ford, executive vice president and general counsel to the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency; and David Myers, policy analyst for the Democratic floor leadership of the state General Assembly.

Tufano, Staten, Makadon and Fry will act as co-chairs along with Hafer and Frobouck. Dow-Ford and Myers will join Brimmeier as deputy executive directors. Trujillo will serve as deputy general counsel of the transition effort.

Rendell also reappointed Edward A. Mann as the state's fire commissioner and named Nolan Reichl, his campaign advance coordinator, to a similar position in the administration.
