GAZA, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- One Jewish settler was killed and another wounded on Saturday evening after a roadside bomb exploded close to their car near the Nitzarim junction south of Gaza City, Israel Radio reported.
The radio reported that one of the wounded was seriously injuredand later died of his wounds at an Israeli hospital.
Witnesses said they heard a huge explosion in the area, and thenthey saw an Israeli ambulance arriving there and an Israeli army helicopter carrying the two wounded Israelis flying up from the area.
They said Israeli soldiers in the area fired several tanks shells and opened intensive gunfire at the residential area of southern Gaza City. No injuries were reported among the Palestinians.
Armed wing of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) Saraya Al Qudds claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a revenge for Israel's killing of Iyad Sawalhe, the commander of the group in theWest Bank city of Jenin, earlier Saturday morning.
Israel held Sawalhe responsible for a series of bombing attacks,including the suicide blast at the junction between Karkur and Megidos, which left 31 Israelis dead and 89 others wounded.
