A trial lawyer with a paper trail, and a Senator.

And, Russert showed him to be an empty suit, afraid to take a position.

He'll be the perfect Democrat candidate.

"Folksy charmer," my ***. He's a slimey, creepy trial lawyer, and as oily as Bill Clinton.

I think Russ Feingold (Rat-WI) is going to emerge as the DemocRatic candidate in 2004. He has a maverick, independent streak in him, voted against the yearly pay raises, and championed the campiagn-finance reform crap.

He's probably the only DemocRat that scares me the most.

Feingold is a bit liberal. He has an independent streak, but votes straight down the liberal Democrat line when Daschle asks him to.

But, hey, Nancy Pelosi will like him, so he may be just what the Democrats need.

I'm afraid that there's still enough prejudice in America to keep a Jew from being elected to the White House just yet.

He'd be another clinton. A handsome, slimy smiler, all style and no substance. The media love him. Let's hope he gets sidelined, because he could be very dangerous.

Nah, the DNC is now run by corrupt leftists and the Clintonites. Feingold's not scandalous and sleazy enough to merit a slot on the '04 Rat ticket.

He is attracting traditional lunch-box Democrats, however...you're right he is a little scary though possibly the only Democrat who could give Bush a run for his money if he decides to run and the Rats go through another New Democrat makeover again.

Yeah, but he doesn't have none of the other Democrat's nastiness or corruption. He doesn't whine and wail about the "evil" Bush tax cuts or foreign policy. He's a liberal allright, but he's smart enough to pick his battles and stand for issues that resonate with the sheeple (minimum-wage, health-care, job-training).

They better shoot some Botox around Edward's eyes to slow them down. I've never seen a person blink so much on TV as Edwards. He is a very bad liar. If he blinked that much in court (bet he never goes to court) I wonder how he ever won a case.

Edwards is "Clinton Light" and he just does not have "it".

He's literally the poster child and ultimate role model for all trial lawyers.

His teen-age son was killed in a car accident several years ago. I believe he rolled over his jeep while four-wheeling on the beach outside their multi-million dollar "weekend place". I have always been curious, though I have no way of finding out, if he sued Jeep for his son's own poor judgment.

Re: Comments about Russ Feingold: Spot on. Liberal in the JFK mold - he appeals to left-wingers leaning towards the Green party and also Bush Democrats disgusted with the Clinton-controlled DNC.

Look for him to become a major player between now and 2004.

It all depends what Bush does in the next 12 months.

If Bush is riding high in 12 months, than guys like Kerry and Edwards are not even going to try and run, and the Democrats will be looking at only second tier candidates. Someone like Gore for whom 2004 is probably his last chance, and maybe a coule of real liberal idealogues.

If Bush is struggling (basically if the economy is struggling), than Every Democrat out there is going to want to get on the bandwagon. Kerry, Edwards, and maybe even Hillary.

You hear a lot of talk of Hillary in 2008, but that only works for her if the Dems lose in 2004. If someone other than her is elected in 2004, than her presidental hopes are probably completely over, because in 2008 that person would certainly seek re-election.

Basically it is important for Bush to make progress on the economy over the next 12 months, as it will keep his challengers way down

Speaking of folksy. I am a resident of the 3rd Congressional Dist in Kansas. Traditionally a GOP hold, Dennis Moore a DEM was re-elected to a third term, primarily due to a monolithic ethnic vote in Wyandotte County which always goes Dem. The night before the election, Rep Moore was pickin' on his flat top guitar. A little blues lick, a little country, etc. This guy is a wolf in sheeps clothing. FOLKSY MY ASS!! He has voted for every major piece of legislation introduced by the Swimmer Aka Ted Kennedy. The GOP nearly pulled off a victory with Adam Taff, a straight talker. Let's me say it again, Rep Moore? Folksy? MY ASS!!!

Mr Hackney has reason to know John Edwards better than most: the 83-year-old was principal of his high school in Robbins, and remembers him well. "He was a good student and he never bothered me," he recalled....

Sounds like he was a real dynamo in high school. I'm surprised the teacher even remembered him.

Edwards is exploring a Presidential run for one reason only: to keep his name in front of the North Carolina voters for his '04 Senate re-election bid. A couple of 3rd-place primary finishes, and he's out. Back home to NC -- where he'll lose his re-election bid, with Dubya at the top of the ticket, if Dubya is even close to his current popularity.

Besides, Edwards brings nothing to the Dem ticket. The only way Edwards could carry NC against Bush would be in the event of a cataclysmic national Democratic rout, in which case it wouldn't matter whether he was on the Dem ticket or not.

Edwards' 1998 Senate win was a fluke, facilitated by a God-awful campaign by Lauch Faircloth. It is mind-boggling to see how he has leveraged that win into some degree of notoriety. Of course, the farther away from NC Edwards is viewed, the better he looks; hence, the fascination of the UK press. Here in NC, we know better. With Edwards, there's no there there. And that will become apparent long before the Democrats name their candidate.
