"voted the greatest movie of the past 25 years by leading movie critics and film-makers in the UK"

Well, so much for their opinion.

Hmmmm...well here's mine

1.Unforgiven
2.Schindler's List
3.The Patriot
4.Titanic
5.Glory
6.The Road Warrior
7.The Killing Fields
8.Sophie's Choice
9.Fargo
10.Pulp Fiction

My criteria are strong story line, interesting visual style, good acting (ummm...I realize Titanic is arguable on that count) and having something in the film speak to me that made my time and money worthwhile.

Raging Bull is an excellent example of the timeless axiom:
"Anything not worth doing at all is not worth doing well."

Of course, it stands to reason that Brits would totally ignore and dismiss the obvious best movie of the past 25 years.

BREAKER MORANT

Raiders of the Lost Ark, hands down the best of the last 25 years.

Try the directors cut. Blade Runner is a masterpiece, IMHO. It is easily one of my all time favorite films. As far as "best of all time lists", those never seem to make much sense. Just take it with a super-sized grain of salt.

To understand the movie you must first know a little about Joseph Conrad's
"Heart of Darkness," and some T.S. Eliot poetry.

I watched it over and over to try and figure out why so many people were impressed by it. I also watched the "making of" movie associated with it. Watching that explained why I was never impressed in the first place. The entire project didn't know what it was doing. IMHO it stumbles from one allegedly profound, pretentious contrivance to another and it's pathetically obvious when the money ran out.

Brutal, just brutal.Funny, too, but Apocalypse Now was made in 1975-'76, so it should be off that list anyway.Very few of those movies hold up at all.No Chariots of Fire? Das Boot? Mephisto? Ran? Berlin Alexanderplatz? Babette's Feast? Pelle the Conqueror?

The film also became notorious for the toll it took on its actors, particularly Sheen who had a heart attack.

Is this akin to liking an Alec Baldwin film because he gets rubbed out in the end? :-O

What about Braveheart, Titanic, Lord of the Rings,.....

I can think of quite a few movies that are better than what they listed.

I thought "Resident Evil" was a far superior movie.

I think what shocked me the most was how good it was. I really did expect it to be garbage.

Apocalypse Now is not even the best Vietnam movie of the last 25 years. Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" and "Platoon" were both better, IMHO.

BTW, not one of MY top 10 movies is even on this list.

From what I saw of the re-release is they put in a bunch of whacked out sex scenes with waked out Playboy Bunnies.

That's when I switched channels.
