The U.S. citizen killed by a missile launched from a pilotless drone aircraft over Yemen was the ringleader of an alleged terrorist sleeper cell in Lackawanna, N.Y., administration officials said yesterday.

Kamal Derwish, one of two unindicted co-conspirators in the Lackawanna case, died along with the intended target of the attack, senior al Qaeda leader Abu Ali al-Harithi, who is accused of masterminding the October 2000 attack on the USS Cole in which 17 sailors died.

These two men and four others were traveling in a car outside the Yemeni capital of Sanaa when they were hit by a Hellfire missile operated at an undisclosed location by the CIA. Derwish had been identified by sources Thursday as Ahmed Hijazi, an alias.

THis story is definite on the name and links to the Buffalo Six. That is the main new info. The other article was tentative about the connection and didn't name Darwish.

Some scholars of constitutional and international laws have raised questions about these rules and charged that the killings do not fall within known legal bounds.

The senior al Qaeda leader Abu Ali al-Harithi had been identified as a enemy combatant.

President Bush has a congressional resolution autorizing military action against al Qaeda and other terrorist.

Yemen invited us in to help them combat the terrorist within their boarders.

How much more legal can it get.

This would be confusing enough if these people had only one name each.
As I understand it, Ahmed Hijazi = Kamal Derwish,
and this is not the same Hijazi as the California State Raed Hijazi.
However Raed Hijazi did know Nabil al-Marabh,
who, in turn, was in contact with al-Qaeda in Buffalo,
and, thus, probably knew Ahmed Hijazi,
and may even have informed on the Buffalo Yemeni 7
in order to secure his release.

Have I got that all straight now??

You may, but I don't. The Buffalo and Portland cases are definitely confusing. And there's so little known about what was going on that there isn't really much in the reports to help distinguish one person from another.

As I mentioned on another thread.
One of the Buffalo 7 agreed to wear an ankle bracelet
and has been released on bail of $600,000.

No information available as to who paid the bail.

He was fluent in English and Hebrew, ...

Odd combination for one of Saudi descent. Surely he spoke Arabic.

If nothing else, the Lackawanna case has made it clear to any native born or naturalized terrorist wannabees that any interest in that lifestyle will be noted by the acronym agencies and have an immense detrimental effect on their lives.

Having said that, nothing that these Lackawanna six or seven has done in any way has the impact that the Saudi money perverting mosques, universities, textbook publishing and the Executive Branch of our government has had.

Let's be very clear about that.
