Details about the Bush Library can be found at http://bushlibrary.tamu.edu.
We have secured a group discount rate of $3.50 for adults and students. Children age 16 and under are FREE. Parking is also FREE.
Currently there are several exhibits showing. The exhibits only run through January 5th so if you are interested, now is the time to make the trip.
Freedom's Journey
Two centuries later, the powerful proclamations of the freedom-loving people now called "Founding Fathers" still ring true. A rare broadside copy of the Declaration of Independence will visit the Museum. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to see one of only 25 remaining copies of this historic document. Freedom's Journey tells the story of our nation's beginnings through original documents, photographs and artifacts. They are direct links to a time when brave individuals risked everything for their belief in liberty. .
Remembering September 11:
As people struggled with the terrible events of September 11, artists from all over the United States began to pour their feelings into their work. Whether it was paint or sculpture, needlework or decoupage, the emotions of a nation are reflected and captured in these wonderful expressions that honor the victims of September 11.
Art and Essay Contest
See the wonderful entries in our annual art contest inspired by last year's popular exhibit, Stripes and Stars. Also on display will be the winning essays from our contest based on "American Democratic Ideas and Practices".
The Fires of Kuwait
This photographic exhibit documents the international coalition of oil well fire fighters who extinguished the oil fires lit by fleeing Iraqi troops at the conclusion of Desert Storm.
Tours are self-guided and cameras and videocameras are fine with the exception of no flash photography in the museum itself. In other words, we can take pictures in the rotunda and elsewhere.
If you have any further questions or just want us to keep an eye out for you please contact Gracy at gracy@austin.rr.com.
Hope you can join us for a Post-Election-Victory Freeper Fieldtrip!

Oh, thanks for posting this! So glad to see by the replies so far that others seem to be excited about this. Folks, the HOT Chapter has been wanting to make this excursion for months, and we decided it would be the perfect way to celebrate the victorious election -- a gathering of FReepers from all over the state. FReepers are Fun!
Any Texas FReepers and lurkers who can make the drive, please join us. It is always wonderful to see old friends and meet new ones who you only know by their screen names!
We should make one minor clarification: I have not yet formalized the discount admission group rate, as the person in charge of that won't be back in her office 'til Monday. However, the very nice lady I spoke to indicated that this should not be a problem. I do believe we will get the group rate of $3.50, but if for some weird reason we don't, regular admission is only $5.00. (Hey, I just don't want to be accused of false advertising, LOL!)
If anyone has any special concerns that need to be addressed, please FReepmail me, I expect to be working out more details when I talk to the Group Reservations lady Monday.
If you think you may join us, please FReepmail me, TheSarce, as I would like to have a beginning estimate of how many people we'll have when I make the reservations. (No, I don't expect to have the final count, just a starting estimate.)
Please indicate a) how many adults; b) how many children 16 and under; and whether you are coming: a) DEFINITELY; b) PROBABLY/VERY LIKELY; or c) JUST MAYBE/NOT AT ALL SURE YET.
Hope to see lots of FReepers in College Station on Nov. 23!

One other clarification: still and video cameras ARE permitted inside the museum proper, you just can't use a flash in there. Photography by avaliable light only is okay inside the museum portion of the library. This means most point & shoots and disposable cameras will be useless inside, but a good manual camera with fast film is good for us shutterbug types who want to photograph the exhibits.

Darn! I am leaving Los Angeles on the 23rd to drive my son's Ford Probe back to Texas. I have been wanting to go to Bush library! I hope you guys do this again sometime! We visited Nixon Library in Yorba Linda last Sunday and it is so awesome. So full of history. To think Nixon was run out of town for trying to hide a break in that someone else did. Look at all the Clinton/Gore/Rodham crimes and they are still running like the Energizer bunny! Will they never stop????
We have also visited the LBJ [PHOOEY] Library in Austin and the WONDERFUL Reagan Library in Calif. We are history junkies!
