George Bush is taking on George Bailey from Frank Capra's 1946 chestnut It's a Wonderful Life.

The former president provides descriptive narration of the perennial holiday favorite, airing on NBC Dec. 7 and 24, for the benefit of blind or visually impaired people in the audience.

Wow ... What a great project!

And hopefully another well-struck nail in the coffin of those who demonize the Bushes, while lionizing the Kennedys and Clintons. Well, to make an extremely bad pun at the Eagles' expense, the day is quickly coming where there ain't no way to hide your Lionize.

Ah, sorry.

(That pun requires consigning you to da fiery furnace ...)

George Bush Snr -- as the Britpapers call him -- probably did just fine narrating the story. He has a warm voice that never was quite as brisk as his son's. I'll turn on the SAP and sample it this Christmas. It isn't as if I haven't seen the unnarrated version less than, say, 30 times?

(By the way, for those who don't know, such narration is done, wherever possible, between pauses in dialogue, and instantly making the existing soundtrack fade back by about 10 dB -- not making it go away. The music, sound EFX, etc., are still audible.)

Where I have a problem, o'course, is with this kind of programming being *sigh* mandated, again, by the FCC, and this time under the pressure of the deluded younger branch of the Powells.

Sell them the damn frequencies! Either these broadcasters are being nibbled to fiscal death by a thousand mandates "in the public interest, convenience, and necessity" (the phrase that accompanies what is NOT private property) ... or they're getting billions of dollars in welfare, by being handed far broader chunks of spectrum for FREE to do what will soon be immensely lucrative digital broadcasting.

The zookeeper that feeds us piranha. Them's the Feds.

Well, the main character in ``It's a Wonderful Life'' is named George B.

It would be great to get Tom Daschle to play Mr Potter. Of course, I'm not sure if he's nice enough...
