============================================================
FYI...I am sending this e-mail message to you because you will be affected by the matter that it focuses on.
The Noblesville-Southeastern Public Library Board is pursuing a $30 million bond to more than double the size of the Noblesville and Fishers library branches.
This non-elected board is going to bind taxpayers in Delaware, Fall Creek, Noblesville and Wayne Townships to a 22-year debt. That debt will be paid through a property tax hike. They are hoping that nobody notices the proposed bump in taxes.
Homeowners with a house valued at $150,000 can expect to pay an additional $52.50 per year in property taxes. That's in addition to the property tax hike that will pay for $7.5 million worth of bonds and a $2 million deficit budget that the Hamilton County Council approved this year.
While I believe that public libraries are a wonderful community resource, I don't believe that they should be funded through tax dollars. I believe that the Noblesville-Southeastern Public Library Board should raise private dollars to fund this project. They have a foundation and a "Friends of the Library" group...either one of these entities could raise the needed funds.
The Noblesville-Southeastern Public Library Board will be meeting next Tuesday (November 12, 2002) to decide this matter. The meeting is at 4:00 PM at the Fishers library branch. I would encourage you to attend that meeting and voice opposition to funding this project through tax dollars.
