DNC's Palmieri: Bush Shot Wad on Midterm Election
President Bush may have won big with yesterday's Senate sweep, but now he's shot his wad of political capital, contends Democratic Party spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri; currency that she said might have been better spent developing support for legislation he'll need to win reelection.
"He had a lot of political capital to spend," Palmieri told WABC Radio's Batchelor and Alexander Show as the returns came in late Tuesday. "He chose to spend on these midterm elections."
But the top aide to DNC chief Terry McAuliffe warned, "I don't know if that's such a great investment, frankly. It might have been better if he chose to spend it developing an economic plan or, you know, working with the Congress on a prescription drug benefit or something."
Palmieri said that while the Bush bounce was "able to bring these [Senate] guys over the edge.... Now I think the question is, to what end?"
The McAuliffe deputy predicted that Bush would "wake up tomorrow morning and say, 'Well, now what?'
"In some ways it's the worst thing," she added. "Be careful what you wish for."
Asked how she felt about the Democrats' election night debacle, Palmieri joked half-heartedly, "It feels a little bit better than in '94. It doesn't feel as good as '98. And it feels a lot better than 2000."

When these people make such stupid statements they lose all credibility. She would have been better served to just admit her party got smoked and commit to working harder.

It's crazy logic. He risked his political capital on this election, he WON and he raked in all the chips. Many of the republican winners were HAND PICKED. They owe HIM big time.

This has to be the stupidest thing I've read in quite a while.
...currency that she said might have been better spent developing support for legislation he'll need to win reelection.
A Republican president helps fill Congress with Republicans, and she doesn't think that will help pass "legislation he'll need to win reelection."
She should have stuck with just sitting there and drooling instead of trying to speak.

Martin Frost is going to run against Pelosi, and Frost is a smart guy. Lets hope that the Democrats are too upset to think clearly, and elect Pelosi.

I got to tell you with the number of TV and Radio ads that were run in MO by the democrats for Carnahan I think the may have incurred some serious debt. In other words the dems shot their wad and have nothing to show for it but a black eye.. I guess they could just "put some ice on that".

"I don't know if that's such a great investment, frankly. It might have been better if he chose to spend it developing an economic plan or, you know, working with the Congress on a prescription drug benefit or something." I think the senate is a pretty good ROI. One that will be sure to pay dividends over the next two years. Boy, are these guys losers or what?
To: FreedomWarrior
You've got to wonder if they believe this garbage. I strongly doubt it. Shooting one's wad to gain immense political advantage is no phyrric victory, as afterward succeeding wads come relatively cheaply.

I certainly agree. Bush spent his political capital but he also got as much or more in return. Those people he helped elect certainly are to some extent indebted. The American people also watched their President remain on message, courteous and presidential. I think it is wishful thinking of the rats' part that DA MAN is washed up.

Sam, ya gotta love the idiots.....they don't even know why they got their butts kicked. With the left truly representing the far end of the scale we have a clean board set for a super majority come 2004. by 2005 the dimorats party may self implode.

What a spin job, she spun herself right into another dimension didn't she.

The McAuliffe deputy predicted that Bush would "wake up tomorrow morning and say, 'Well, now what?' Here's Bush's new to-do list, Terry:
Go ahead and Pass the Daschle-stalled budget
Get the Daschle-stalled judicial appointments voted on
Pass the Daschle-stalled Homeland Security
Provide some of our own energy with ANWR
Trial lawyer reform
Abolish the IRS code in favor of a NRST or a low flat tax
Annex western Canada.
That's for the end of January and February. I don't know what he's going to do for March and beyond. :^)

Any sports fan understands that momentum needs to be capitalized upon immediately. YES, which is why the Bills' coach should be fired for PUNTING on 4th & 2 on the Patriot's 35.

I would say Bush invested his political capital and got a huge return and thus has MORE political capital today than he did a week ago.
