A Touch of Home

.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen 
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night. 

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too. 
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of 
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor, 
a library, etc. 

Many Veterans have written to me, 
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they 
served. 

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy 
and sometimes troubling world. 
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family, 
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their  
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank 
them. 

Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper 
Style, are thankful for every service member 
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
In both times of war and peace, thank you.

We have vets lying in hospitals all over this land without soap to bathe, without razors to shave, without shampoo to wash their hair and without glasses to read the newspaper. It's time to do our part to help them live like human beings! They are not animals to be shut up in a pound and forgotten! They put their ass on the line for US and our children! Snow Bunny and I, along with the Houston Area Texans of FreeRepublic, have a plan to help.

Hi there Sweet Bunny and all my Buds. My youngest son was just questioning me AGAIN about Vietnam and I started to tell him (again) about the USO Shows. Naturally now that he's in bed, I had to stop in here and say hi. I've been very busy gloating the last couple of days. heh heh ... Anyway, I told him how dear Bob Hope and his gang of marauders were to me. I was always so far out that all I could do was hear them on AFVN. But then I remembered Cris Noel. She actually visited us near the Cambodian border. I think it was in '68. In you profile, which I just reread, I see that you did meet her in your travels. Are you still in touch by chance?

If you are, tell her that I still remember her visit to An Thoi and will always appreciate the risks she took. She's one class act, just like you. I'd STILL have her pic if my first ex-wife didn't tear it up. LOL .. As if THIS ugly dude had her as a girlfriend. Anyway, y'all take good care. We are in a band of brothers and sisters that I will cherish 'till the day I die. Let's never forget to support all those who are earning their membership as we sit at home warm and comfy. May God bless each and every one of you and them every day. If any brave members of our forces happen to read these lines, just KNOW we are always here and will never abandon you.

This is wonderful news,I am so proud of you and what you are doing. I wish I could help with ideas about a press release, gosh I have no idea how to write one. I guess just speak about how it is to support the troops in such a special way like you are doing. It is so very special.

Hi my wonderful friend and brother.Yes we do have a very special tie and I cherish knowing you so much.
The people I have met in my life with the military, the veterans and those with the USO have all been the memories I will never forget.
Yes I did meet her, I was closer though to some others as my husband ( FallGuy here on FR), worked with some of the others in the films he did which was fun. Like Ann Margaret and some others he worked with as well. So we had met a lot of the same people when I met him the first time years later after Nam.
