Delivering a Touch of Home

A Touch of Home

.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.

Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
In both times of war and peace, thank you.

.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Just heard on the Radio, but in case it hasn't been mentioned here yet:

They will begin reading the names on "The wall" starting this afternoon at 3pm and go until complete.

The Traveling Wall is in Modesto, CA through Monday, Veteran's Day.

Over the four days "The Wall" is here, they will be reading the names of those who gave all for this great nation. Some personal friends, also some who I served with during that time are written on "The Wall."

Without objection, I will represent my fellow vets from FR and all FR personnel as I spend time at "The Wall" to honor their service and memory this weekend.

SALUTE!

The Size of Your Heart

It isn't the size of your house as such
That matters so much at all.
It's the gentle hand and its loving touch,
That make it great or small.

The friends who come and the hour they
Who out of your house depart,
Will judge it not by the style you show,
But rather by the size of your heart.

It isn't the size of your head so much,
It isn't the wealth you found.
That will make you happy --
it's how you touch
The lives that are all around.

For making money is not hard --
To live life well is an art:
How people love you, how they regard,
Is all in the size of your heart.

Morning Kathy, more like afternoon now. The Muslims are threatening us with the GOP sweep. Prepare for battle. I hope W does not hold back.

Check it out Girlz, is today's transportation cute or what. I peeked into today's thread last night before bed and cracked up. I had a really hard time not LOL. My brother was spending the night in the room where my computer is, rather that spend the night in the airport, before flying to work in the morning. Don't worry he said, "you being on the computer won't bother me at all". When I saw today's thread I had to work really hard not to wake him up. I finally had to leave the room. This should be fun. See ya all later.

Thanks! I noticed that Misty made a lot of the dolls too. Maybe she will pop in soon. I got a lot of ideas from her dolls. Thanks. I thought you had been making some of your own. I guess I am a few steps ahead of you in that department. So now it's just figuring out how to get them from there to here! LOL.

Morning Miss Bunny...

Since it's "Themeless Thursday", here's one that's made the rounds, but reflects my views

Expressions of an American

I like big cars, big boats, big motorcycles, big houses, and big campfires.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some governmental stooge with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts for squirting out babies.

Guns don't make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, which is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts.

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion. I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, hate America or want to kill me. When 100% of these people who hijack airplanes and slam them into buildings are ARABS and MUSLIM, in cities where 100% of the population is American. That is not racial profiling; it is the law of common sense.

I believe that if you are selling me a milk shake, a newspaper, or a hotel room, you must do it in English. As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen you should speak English. My father and grandfather shouldn't have to die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.

I think the police should have every right to shoot you if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I feel much safer letting a machine with no political affiliation recount votes when needed.

I know what the definition of lying is.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television, and that doesn't stop you from watching them.

I believe a self-righteous liberal or conservative with a cause is more dangerous than a Hell's Angel with an attitude.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better and put your name on the building. Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid and smack his little behind when necessary and say "NO."

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And stay home until that new lip ring heals, I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me fries.

I am sick of "Political Correctness" and of all the suck ups that go along with it. Get a life and a clue before you impose your will and opinion on others.

I am proud to be from America and nowhere else. You should be too regardless of race, creed or color. Otherwise get out.

And if you don't like my point of view, tough!!!!!!!!!!!!
