Has any one heard what is going on in S.D.? Are they going to investigate that questionable finish?
That answers the next post after yours, as well. Thune is not "required to choose" among his remedies. He can let the recount proceed by doing nothing, and then sue depending on whether the recount process corrects the election. So he CAN have it both ways, which based on his statement released today is exactly what he is doing.

If he ultimately loses this, chances are his political career in the state of SD will have to be put on hold for at least six more years.
He is giving the other side nothing to attack him on, at this time. He may have felt like a vitriolic outburst, but he kept himself in check -- the exact opposite of Nixon's outburst when he lost the race for Governor of California in 1960, "You won't have Richard Nixon to kick around any more."
Either Thune's a sharp cookie, or he has excellent advisors, or probably both. He's playing this electoral violin exactly right.
Congressman Billybob
Its not moral to give up in the face of fraud. Its not moral to through away all of the hard work of your supporters without fighting doggedly, especially when there is already evidence of probable fraud through the FBI investigation. He should demand a full recount and be prepared to file suit.
"South Dakota Statutes 12-21-12. Candidate's petition for recount in close state or district election -- Notice to county auditors. If any candidate for an office, position, or nomination other than the Legislature is voted upon in more than one county, and has been defeated according to the official returns by a margin which does not exceed one-fourth of one percent of the total vote cast for all candidates for such office, position, or nomination, the candidate may within three days after completion of the official canvass by the State Board of Canvassers file a petition with the secretary of state setting forth that the candidate believes a recount will change the result and that all of the votes cast for the office, position, or nomination should be recounted. The secretary of state shall, by registered or certified mail, notify each county auditor that has precincts included in the petition. Each county auditor shall then conduct a recount."

As already indicated, I have no disagreement with that.
Interesting -- arrest in SD for Voter Fraud. Wonder what re-canvassing will turn up?
What do you think John Thune is trying to discover with the recanvassing? Is he buying time until more fraud is brought into the light -- or is there something he knows will be discovered? There seems to be something very interesting going on there -- and not a whole lot of media coverage. I'd be very interested in your take...
Kinda sounds like the Taliban -- and fundamentalist Islamic "groups" -- doncha think?
How can he be denied the recount, given that it's automatic? That makes no sense to me.
I missed this on the other thread. Which county is this and who controls it? This could be key.
