She's a convicted felon as of today!

I hate to nit-pick but, technically, a criminal defendant is "convicted" only as of the day of sentence, not the day of verdict.

That's interesting. So if I'm convicted of a crime, then jump bail before sentencing and disappear, I'm never legally a "convicted felon"? Or am I sentenced in absentia?
