Let's Get Back to Work for 2004- David Horowitz Commentary on the opportunity we have

Republican Surge By David Horowitz FrontPageMagazine.com | November 6, 2002

It was a big night for Republicans; much bigger than the media is admitting. The first Republican governor in Georgia in more than 100 years; the first Republican Governor in Maryland in 38 years (against a Kennedy); a decisive shift in Florida to the Bush camp; only the fourth time in history a triumphant presidential party has gained House seats in the first mid-term elections, and possibly the first time in history a presidential party has gained seats in the Senate. And all this in a bad economic year.

It’s the war, stupid; and the leader. No one should underestimate the transformation that George Bush is working on the American electorate and on the fortunes of Republicans. This is a leader who has opened up new electoral horizons for his party. On the caution side, low voter turnout always works for Republicans, which is a factor that won’t be with them in 2004. What that means is Republicans will have to wage a far more aggressive campaign to extend this victory.

The consequence of the defeat for Democrats is likely to be an internal battle royal, a lurch to the left, and a push for the presidential candidacy of “populist,” anti-war Gore. This could provide an historic opportunity for the Republican Party to become the party of an American majority. Given the dangers of the looming war on terror, and the appeasement mentality of the Democratic left, the opportunity couldn’t come at a better time.

Hey Freepers, today starts the effort for 2004 and total victory. Horowitz's comments are important, as the turnout in the national Presidential election will affect all other races. We need to build on this great mid term victory with positive results and actions, competency and communication. I start today to organize a "Dump Bob Graham" movement, to unseat Sen. Bob Graham of Florida. How about you? Now is the time!!

The first thing the Republicans need to do is claim victory. The word, "mandate" needs to be used in every sentence uttered from their mouths for the next couple of weeks. Listening Lott?

Limbaugh disagrees. Last night on NBC he was saying that the Republicans shouldn't repeat the mistake of '94 when they assumed that the country had turned conservative. He said they should take this for what it is, a victory.

HOrowitz has a multi-million dollar budget thanks to his incredible ability to dupe conservatives out of their money.

Ya know how much he contributed to Republicans this election cycle?

Nothing.

$0.00

No, he definitely said Republicans should stay on message. I interpreted what he said to mean they shouldn't assume that there's been a sea change and that the whole country would automatically follow along.

I'd be interested to hear his take today, but last night I was kind of surprised at how he sort of downplayed the Republican victory. It didn't sound like he was claiming a mandate. Maybe it took him by surprise like it did a lot of others.

Now that we have it, we need to use it quickly and effectively.

The judges that were borked need to be sent up to the floor immediately for an up-or-down vote. Their treatment by the Democrats was shameful, and should not be allowed to stand. And, by the way, is the original Bork still available for a Supreme judgeship?

Voter fraud by the Democrats is widespread and endemic. This needs to be attacked and dealt with systematically. People need to be led away in cuffs, or we are going to lose it all down the road. Most voter fraud only works in close elections, but all elections are close ones these days.

And immigration and border control needs to be elevated in priority. Malkin's criticisms of the INS and our immigration policy are on the mark; we are in trouble, and for reasons of local partisan politics, everyone is looking away. We have to get control of immigration or we are going to lose our republic. Immigration policy must serve the interests of citizens. It must not be perverted for the purpose of manipulating labor costs, or voter demographics, or any other purpose.

We have been delivered an opportunity. We have to take it and run with it. If we are bold, the rest will follow. If we are weak, and try to appease our enemies, we will lose focus and we will be overtaken. Bold is better.

Rush was saying you can't stop selling your ideas thinking the country has turned conservative just because you won an election.

He's not saying be moderate or be a Bob Michel goalongtogetalong.

Listen to his show today and he will explain it better than I can.

Absolutely not. Rush consistently says that Republicans after the 94 revolution forgot that they had to constantly educate voters. Forgot that voters have short memories. Forgot that registered Dems are creatures of habit and feeling and must constantly have things explained to them in simple words and images. In short. Republicans assumed the electorate had "wised up" and in their arrogance forgot that the media was still against conservatives and that they still had to work to get the message out.

Republicans have a victory in battle today. Are we content with that or are we ready to stay in the trenches and win the warfare that we will be engaged in for the next election cycles? So many of these defeated dems tried to portray themselves as "Bush friendly. " The dems think that he is dumb as a stump. I personally think he is dangerously clever. I hate his ideas on faith based initiatives. When has government ever benefited an institution that it interfered with? If Republicans bicker among ourselves, we will upset the children who brought us the victory. Is Rush right? We shall see.

Won a battle last night, but the war continues. In no way should we make assumptions about where things are as of 11/06/02. We have multiple strategies to prepare now. First, what are we to do with the majority the Republicans now enjoy? Second, how can we continue to make our message known to the populace? Third, what are the likely Phlegmocrat strategies heading into 2004?

At the risk of posting a Ratherism, I'll compare our victory last night with a football game. In football, we always hear about not running up the score if a game is in the bag, essentially calling off the dogs when things swing your way. This war is no football game. Our job in 2004 should be to run up the score on the Democrats, thus solidifying our position heading into the '06 midterms and getting W another term in office.

RUN UP THE SCORE IN 2004!!!!!!

This election proves:

Rule #1 - Under no circumstances should you ever, ever, underestimate President George W. Bush.

It also proves that the democrats just don't get it. All I hear coming out of their mouths this morning is "We did'nt win because we were not liberal enough".

I say we rule withy an iron fist while talking bi-partisanship. Jim jeffords should be punished in the Senate.

Limbaugh is right. Republicans must avoid the mistake Newt Gingrich made, which was to become triumphalist and hubristic. The Republicans should NOT assume that this is a huge conservative moment. It is, I think, a repudiation of the sleazy behavior of the Dems, and a vote of confidence in Bush and the Republicans. What the Republicans need to do is to redefine what the words "center" and "moderate" mean. Why should it be moderate to kill babies, for instance? As I've said before, the worst thing conservatives can do is to talk a lot of belligerant, nasty, conservative TALK. Reagan was unfailingly soft-spoken, humorous, and polite. Bush is unfailingly soft-spoken, humorous, and polite. Except when they are speaking about recognized enemies, such as the Soviet Union or Muslim terrorists.

The main reason Daschle and the Dems lost is that they were much too shrill and hateful. They have forgotten what it means to be polite. Being polite doesn't cost you anything, and it's the best way to DO what needs to be done instead of constantly talking about it.

I don't care whether Bush uses all the conservative platitudes, as long as he continues to move the country in the right direction and do whatever conservative things he is politically able to do. I would prefer that he didn't overreach himself, try to do things that can't be done, anger the voters, and pave the way for the return of another clinton.

Personally, I think modestly younger conservatives would be better... let's keep it on the Right side for a loooong time to come.

The first thing the Republicans need to do is claim victory.

Yes, but the second thing they need to do is start planning on how to become more competative in California, New York, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. The Republicans own the South, but to maintain this victory they need to work hard in these other areas, especially CA which is now so completely Democratic we couldn't even unseat an unpopular governor.

No...the first thing they need to do is get down to Louisiana. There's some unfinished business there.

What?!! We already have a mandate. We have to expect Sen. Lett to walk and chew gum at the same time...even if you haven't mastered it.
