I have talked to so many people who voted for this because they think it's great that they will be able to eat out in smoke free restaurants.

It happened long ago in my state (California).

My sympathies, Floridians.

Simply Outrageous.

Granted that I do not like to smell smoke in a restaurant, what right does the Government, or anyone else, have in telling a business owner who can smoke in his workplace.

This is definitely tyrannical. Anyone who voted "yes" for such should rethink their views.

I too am a non-smoker, I voted NO.

So many people vote emotional knee jerk reactions to these Amendments, and don't think.

Good for Florida, it's pretty nice to be able to breath in places where the public gathers.
Here in CA I went to an Indian casino and being there is no smoking ban on that land, I was reminded of how disgusting it had been long ago to eat in public with smokers acting like chimneys just tables away. Foul smell and unhealthy.
This is one issue that is far more about heath than rights, IMO!

If this amendment passes, workplaces should do what they wish. It's none of the government's business. If they want an explosive "war" over it, I'd say let them try to force businesses. Any business should withold taxes from the government if Tallahassee tries to tell them that they can't operate as they wish.

FYI. The government isn’t telling business owners who can smoke up a confined space inhabited by others, who don’t’ smoke. The people of Florida have provided resounding support against a rude nasty habit, which intrudes upon the space of others.

Hey, Marge. What happened to all the restaurants? And why are prices so much higher?

Protect People from the Health Hazards of Second-hand Tobacco Smoke by Prohibiting Workplace Smoking.
This is called "stipulating a point that is in question" and will get you an F in most respectable debating classes.

At my place of employment, and I'm sure at many in Florida as well, common areas and conference rooms and pool office areas have been non-smoking for years.Private offices have been up to the employee, and non-smokers could choose to meet with those who smoke only in their own office if it bothered them. All this, without a law.How can it be?

I hope those same people think it's so great when the fast food is taxed and regulated also. And by the way this new amendment for enforcement "in the workplace" would allow the police to ticket self-employed people who work from home and decide to smoke inside their own homes. All it takes is the cops to get a call from a neighbor and whammo, you're fined. Way to go commielibs. I'll be relocating my humidor and my business during the next year.

Well, for your information, I find smoking to be a bad habit, harmful and visually unappealing. However, it's none of the government's business in telling a BUSINESS OWNER how to run his restaurant or business.

Thus, that's why there are non-smoking and smoking sections. If you chose to not want to be around the smoke while dining or working, you can chose not to work at the place, or you can chose to not work there. Regarding dining, if it cuts into the sales, the owner will get the hint.

Again, don't you think that a business owner (who is paying taxes) has a right to run his business as he wishes, without government involvement. Doesn't the idea of living in a free country mean anything?
