Systematic problem statewide in Georgia confirmed
Drudge Report ^ | 11/5/02 | Matt Drudge

Systematic problem statewide in Georgia confirmed: When placing vote, and touching the screen for a Republican candidate, the box is incorrectly checked for the Democrat candidate. Another similar situation is occurring when the review screen comes up and previously marked Republican votes are showing as Democrat votes... is happening in lots of different races, to both parties. Officials fixing problems as they arise when made aware of them... Developing...

I voted in GA with no apparent problems.

Just wish I was sure that little card recorded what I actually wanted.

Touch screens (or any scheme not paper-based) is a bad idea.

Yep, yep. I'm in Atlanta and when I tried to vote I was told I had been taken off the Fulton county (Atlanta) master list. No reason was given. I am currently and properly registered in Fulton county. I had to call the chief of elections, raise bloody h*ll and get a provisional ballot. I'll have to followup on this to make sure my vote was counted but in over ten years of voting I've never had any problems before. Ironically, this was just after I became involved in the Republican party machine. I'm not sure what is going on, but I hope if others have been removed that they will post it here. I live in a heavily republican zip code (north alpharetta) and it could be that someone is just dropping people from lists in that area. But it could be a mistake, too. Not sure until I hear whether or not this is happening to others.

I like that idea. I, too, am skeptical of having no paper trail.

I believe some of the touch screen machines do print a paper tape, but it is only intended for recounts, not for the voter.

This is total BS- I have talked to many who voted today and they loved it! The process is now faster, lines are shorter and the 20 or so people I talked to reported no problems. I am sure there are going to be a few screw ups, but all in all this will be a huge step forward in voting in GA. I am voting this afternoon after work. Bye bye cleland (I hope)

She didn't say that I heard but I just tuned in after she was already talking to Neal. I would suspect she is in Atlanta. She sounded articulate and very credible. She didn't identify who she wanted to vote for and who actually got her vote, but if she is calling Boortz, we can make a pretty good guess.

Mhking, you also heard the call, do you have info on where she was?

More fraud to report, let's all call the DNC fraud line at 1-866-VOTE-411. It cost DNC head Terry McAulif $0.50/call!

Let's call often!

Well I had no problem at all in Georgia. I think some of these people having problems can't read. I would like to have had a printout though of who I voted for with a carbon copy for the election officials. That way there is a paper trail.

The caller to Boortz who suggested a receipt for the voter seemed to have some information on the paper trail that is generated by the machines. She herself has worked in computers for 20 years and was talking to a poll worker friend who told her about these new machines.

Before the voting starts, they run a tape on each machine to verify that all are set to zero. When the voting is over, they run another tape that shows the results for that machine, sort of like closing out a cash register at a store. My understanding is that it only shows totals for each candidate and not how one particular person voted.

I understand - I really think Drudge is irresponsibly barking up the wrong tree here. He's got no confirmation, unless he's got the ear of someone in the state that no one else does.

Fortunately, in Hamilton County (Ohio), we vote by punch card ballots--the virtually fool proof system that worked well in Florida, in 2000, however the Gore/Clinton operatives sought to smear it. I cannot imagine a worse idea than voting by touching a screen! How could anyone possibly sort out the effects of a computer error--whether accidental or planned? What tangible trace would there be of the actual intention of the voter? (Or am I missing something? Do these machines print out a checkable ballot?)

It looks as though we are headed for systems, where no one will ever be able to be confident that the reported count actually reflected anything about the actions of the electorate. We are careening, on many fronts, towards political chaos in America; so I suppose we should all get used to new "surpirses" along the way. In the meanwhile, those of us who mean to restore the Republic of the Fathers, certainly have our work cut out for us.

No problems here in SOWEGA. Double checked it before I posted it. I voted at 12:30 and I was number 100. We have about 400 people regestered in my precinct, mostly dumocraps. We are so small both city limit signs are on the same post. Voted straight Republican. You can too, it doesn't hurt at all.
