In a final full day of campaigning Monday, DFL gubernatorial candidate Roger Moe tried to reach a wide range of voters, from union members to immigrants to downtown Minneapolis commuters during the evening rush hour.

Moe spoke to senior citizens at a Columbia Heights high rise, visited the dozens of ethnic restaurants that dot Nicollet Av. between 26th and 28th streets and took center stage with Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Walter Mondale at a noon rally at Peavey Plaza on the Nicollet Mall. The rally also included the band Soul Asylum and actress Jessica Lange, who lives in Stillwater.

I also saw footage of this rally on the news; they showed a clip of good ol' Jessica yelling "GET OFF YOUR F***ING ASSES AND VOTE TOMORROW!"

Geez, do you eat with that mouth Jessica? I'm sure the people with children in the crowd appreciated that. Then again, they are DemocRATS, so they probably just don't care.

How embarassing, to have to resort to getting washed up B-Movie actresses to come out and stump for you. He would have been better off getting the guy in the King Kong suit rather than his supporting actress.

Gee...I was going to vote Republican tomorrow, but since that mental giant Jessica Lange wants me to vote Dim, I guess I'll do whatever she tells me to do...</sarcasm>

Another Hollywood " STAR" I will never watch again in a movie or on TV. My list keeps getting longer and longer. Do they have enough liberal friends to keep them happy and wealthy ??

Yikes. That might work in San Francisco, but will it fly in Minnesota?

The little clip they played on ABC radio news had Lange shrieking, "YOU MUST VOTE FOR MONDALE! YOU MUST VOTE FOR MONDALE! YOU MUST VOTE FOR MONDALE!"

FIGURATIVE DROOL

Mia T , 11-05-02

MINNESOTANS WORRIED about an anthrax attack at the Mall of America can relax. Walter Mondale is on the case.

"Don't worry about me and terrorism," he declared in the Minnesota Senate debate Monday morning. "I'm opposed to it.

Well, He Didn't Drool . . . Walter Mondale stumbles through his Monday morning "conversation" / The Daily Standard | 11-4-02 | by Stephen F. Hayes

Perhaps Mondale didn't drool, literally, but the stuff that spewed forth--non sequiturs, petitio principii, imagined laurels, ideological black holes, time warps, warped priorities-- was drivel nonetheless.

It was downright scary...and it was an automatic disqualifier...or, at least, in a rational world it would be.

Nothing illustrated Mondale's dangerous lack of grasp better than his failure to understand this fundamental truth: protecting the American people from the terrorists trumps protecting labor union collective bargaining.

Notwithstanding Wellstone, Walter Mondale is not the accidental candidate. Rather he, and Frank Lautenberg further south and east, are the paradigmatic candidate: they are the precise incarnation of Democrat obsolescence.

Mondale-Lautenberg is the last gasp of a party unfit to lead, especially in a post-9/11 world.

It is obvious to anyone who bothers to remove his political blinders. It is so patently obvious that even those whose political blinders are a permanently fixed fashion statement -- that is to say, even Hollywood -- can see it. (Just ask Whoopie Goldberg...or Rosie O'Donnell...) Bush's poll numbers are a reflection of this self-evident truth.

What is manifestly obvious and confirmed on a daily basis is the plain fact that Democrats are, by definition, constitutionally unfit to navigate the ship of state through these troubled, terrorist waters. Democrats were unfit pre-9/11, but few could see it then. It was 9/11 and its aftermath that made this truth crystal clear even to the most simpleminded among us.

The unwashed masses, the uninformed, the disinformed can see it now. All America can see it now. Self-preservation is kicking in, trumping petty politics at every turn. (That pesky fundamental truth, again.)

And this is why Democrat demagoguery and stupidity and sedition are achieving new lows...

We are witnessing the last gasp of a political relic. The Democrat party is not merely obsolete. As 9/11 and clinton-clinton-Daschle action and inaction and the Mondale and Lautenberg candidacies have demonstrated, the Democrat party is very dangerous.

Today we can still make a difference. Let's roll!

It is natural for man to indulge in the illusions of hope.
We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth,
and listen to the song of that siren
till she transforms us into beasts.
Is this the part of wise men,
engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty?
Are we disposed to be the number of those
who, having eyes, see not,
and having ears, hear not,
the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation?
For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost,
I am willing to know the whole truth;
to know the worst, and to provide for it.
Patrick Henry

I see that they called in the queen of the remake (Jessica Lange) for the makeover of Mondale's political career.

So much yesterday's news.
