SOMETHING ODD
vanity

Something quite odd happened to me just before 2AM today.
Having gotten up to answer a "call of nature" - ( Ah ! The joys of getting older !! ) - I was returning to bed, and saw a strange light downstairs-and the sound of voices.
Stumbling downstairs, I saw that the TV was on : displaying a nifty test pattern, while a voice-over extolled the glories of computer cable hook-up.
I know the TV was off when we went to bed.
I know was wife was upstairs in bed.
I know we were the only people in the house.
I also know the doors were (still) locked, and there were no intruders present.
Has anyone experienced the "thrill" of having a cable TV system turn itself on in the wee hours ?
I'm not alarmed by the incident, or "spooked out"-but I sure am curious !!!

Do you have a cable box? I've often wondered just what little gems of technology those things were equipped with.

Yes, it has happened to me once before. I was spooked by it, since the TV had been turned OFF, but it apparently has something to do with an electrical surge.

I also have an old TV that "turn itself on" about once a day. I have to unplug it before I go to bed (maybe this is God's way of telling me to get a new one).

This happened to us a lot with our old boob tube. But only in the late fall and winter. Static electricity? If not, my money's on your mew. You do have a cat, don't you? (You really should :)

Flushing the toilet does that sometimes. Try to make less noise next time.

Our tv turns on at midnight every night. We assume it is misprogrammed somehow but I've not been able to stop it. Might help if I could find the owners manual ....

Power surges can turn a tv on or off. Sometimes they get the system so confused you have to unplug the set to reboot it.

I think its likely to be a faulty disgrontificator. You can pick one up for about $16 at any hardware store. I put new ones on all my electronic items every two years.

Ethel, can you help me out? I forgot to buy more tin foil and those dad-burn black helicopters keep turning on the TeeVee.

If your TV power is hooked into your cable box, it's possible that your cable company reset your box overnight, and the power came on.
