I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in NYC. For those who are not familiar this is ground zero for leftists and hard core socialist style Rats.
Today I went up to the Fairway Market on Broadway and 74th Street to do some shopping. The store is very popular due to its fresh food, great selection, and gourmet items. The store spans 2/3 of the block so it has significant sidewalk traffic and draws great crowds like it did today. The sidewalks in front of the store often have tables set up out front usually soliciting money for animal shelters. This time of year however you see political displays, and they are not conservative or Republican.
Witholding my pride I walked past a prominent Carl McCall(Rat candidate for governor) table with posters , literature and three people manning it. All the staffers were white men and in their 50-s to 60's. To be complete in description, I am 6'1 blonde/scandinavian looking in my early 30's. Next to the McCall Rats was another Democrat with a big poster that said "No War in Iraq" and "protect rent control" on it. Rent control is big with these leftists as they pay $300 a month rents on apartments that would rent for $3000 a month at market rates.
The Wellstone FuneRally fired me up the other night so upon entering the store I immediately starting thinking about the comments I would use to disparage and demoralize these nitwits. The first idea to come to mind was asking how they could support the NY State Democratic party (Hillary & Chuckie voted yes on war)when they had a big No war on Iraq sign.
Shopping was hectic and by the time I left the store I was not in the mood to Freep them. In addition my son was asleep in his stroller, so I figured why bother him. Passing the McCall table I saw more of these bearded 50ish white men with glasses(they all look the same don't they), I was blocked by the busy street traffic from getting right up to them so I decided to walk on, a little down that I let the opportunity go unchallenged.
But then the Freep happened.
At the corner was another 50ish white man with a beard and glasses wearing a Green party button chanting "No War" loudly over and over.
I had had it.
I went right next to the Green and chanted "NUKE IRAQ!" several times. The look of suprise in the face of the greenie was priceless. Judging by his speaking style and demeanor I would say he has engaged in a lot of heavy drug use. First he yelled back "oh yeah nuke Iraq, nuke Iraq". Then he called me a "typical chickenhawk". By then I would say at least 10-15 people had stopped their shopping to stare and watch.
Then something amazing happened.
Another man, intelligent looking, white in his late 50's, looked a little Waspy wearing a baseball hat and barn jacket came right up to the Green and starting tearing into him. "Yes we should nuke Iraq! My son was killed on 9/11, it's because of assh*les like you that he is dead". Now there were more people watching, maybe 20-30, several smiling at the Green get belittled. The Green said to the man " m very sorry about your son", but the man who lost his son continued to call him an assh*le and say "I am so sick of people like you". At that point I added "because of people like you 3000 people died on 9/11".
At this point we both started to walk away down the street together but just before I left, there was a McCall supporter wearing a McCall button watching. As I left I turned to him and said "And McCall is going down by 20 pts!" The McCall white male 50ish supporter was stunned and said nothing.
The man who lost his son laughed when I made the Mccall dig. I wish I could have found a way to tell him about Freerepublic at the time that was appropriate. As we walked away the man continued to tell me how sick of antiwar leftists he was. I told him I agreed and that I felt sorry for the loss of his son.
This all happened an hour ago.
Thanks, although my wife is less than thrilled I did this with my boy with me, I felt empowered by having him with me. If I don't fight for him, what's the point of fighting at all. These leftist dirtbag would prefer to make it easier for Islamists to kill my son. And hell, the Rat brainiacs bring their kids along to the anti-war death marches. Why shouldn't we bring our kids along to our protests.
Thank you!
My ex and I used to shop at the Uptown Fairway. It's on around 137th and (get this)"Marginal Street" (when I first saw the street sign I said "Well, they said it, not me" :D). No matter when you go it's alway packed with people, a total free-for-all. Before major holidays it's like guerilla shopping. But that store is the greatest.
And they have the best prices on cheese that I have ever seen.
You're right about McCall and I hope the black community wakes up to reality. Bill and Hill shoved it to them big time in NY!!!
I am laughing so hard I'm crying...
Nice parting shot on McCall.
There are actually quite a few city freepers. We even get together once in a blue moon. I would have thought there weren't enough conservatives in Manhattan to fill a booth in a diner, but I was wrong.
And, while liberals make up about 70% of this town, 30% of 10 million is a lot of people.
Who all feel like they're they only conservative in the entire city. That's how I felt before I found FR, and I realized there were a whole bunch of other people like me during the rallies after Election 2000. People driving down Broadway would see our totally-unexpected Bush/Cheney signs and go NUTS--cheering, honking their horns, pumping their fists. We made their day.
And I feel like things could change here just a little. Something is different. I suspect there are many people out there who are "mad as hell and not going to take it anymore". They might even *think* they are democrats.
Congratulations!!!! on your most excellent FReep.
What a wonderful thing you did for that man whose son was killed on 9/11. I wonder how many times he's wanted to shout at those pukes or if he's ever done it on his own. I know you went home with your heart pumping,.... I'll just bet that man did too.
God Bless you and btw loved the McCall put down too. FReepers rule.
Then you oughta love how i saw a bunch of Liz Krueger signs ripped off the lamposts in the garbage also. I wonder how that happened....hmmmmmmmmm.
Millions of trees have died for that Greenie witch. How's that for irony?
It's a good thing to be prepared for. And I see after today it also take practice.
I plan on practicing more often.
