Mine doesn't work on Netscape4.X, but works fine with Mozilla1.1, and IE.

Thanks. I was wondering if others were having the same issue. I use IE 6.0 and never had a problem before. I was wondering if this is a problem with Free Republic or a problem on my end. I'm thinking the new FR software needs a tweak.

Is there no word wrapping at all, or are the lines just very wide?

I've seen very wide lines when there's a wide image in one of the comments on the page, and the browser uses the width of that image as the width of the text lines.

Check and see if there's a wide image in one of the comments on the page, either to you and from you. If so, the problem will disappear when the post with the wide image is displaced by more recent posts in My Comments.

As a temporary fix, just to be able to read the page, you could clear your cache and turn images off. Then go back to the My Comments page and it should be readable again (assuming a wide image was the problem).

The lines were very wide. I think it is exactly what the problem was as this has been going on for the past week or so. But the spooky thing is, somebody went in and fixed it on me just a few minutes ago. Either that or the recent replies to me just shot that image to the next page of posts. I'm checking now...

I'm using Netscape4.73, with no problem. I suspect that somewhere down your list you have a URL that exceeds the window width; no break in the line keeps it all together:

If you get a response from someone, and it's not formatted properly, it'll trash your "My Comments" browser window.

The only solustion I can think of, is to reduce the limit in "My Preferences" to 25, and then wait until the corrupted response gets bumped past that limit, or call John/Jim and ask them to remove the dam thing.

Note to the FR public: If you're going to post a huge response in a thread, it might be a good idea to leave the addressee line blank. Because everytime that person does a self-search, they have to wait for your response to load. Especially if it's linked to another website that is slow , or non-responsive.

Well, that's exactly what it was. There was a very large image that was throwing everything out of whack. By coincidence, that image dropped off the page so the problem "fixed itself" just a few minutes after I posted this thread.

When I hit "Show More Posts..." at the bottom, the problem came back because the offending image was now on that page.

Anyway, mystery solved. Admin Moderator, feel free to pull this post as I feel sufficiently stupid now.

My Netscape 4.X will not work properly in the "Your Reply" window. The text just disappears, and the "Word Wrap" feature no longer works since the latest server problems cropped up.

Does yours do that ?

Mine works fine; the 'Word Wrap' button at the bottom says ON. That URL I put in for Fresno also wrapped in the posting window, but in the thread blew it over. Strange.

Hmm...I guess I'll clear my cache, and FRcookie, and see if that will fix it.

Well, I'm glad that's all it was. For what it's worth, I don't think this thread should necessarily be pulled. This is a genuine, although minor, problem in the user interface. However, I think it doesn't really come up often enough to be worth someone's time and effort to implement a fix of some sort, if that's even possible.

It's probably a good idea to document these things though, just so people working on FR web site development in the future are aware of them. This kind of thing could also go into an FAQ for users.

It doesn't matter to me whether or not the post is pulled either. I just didn't want to be perceived as "wasting bandwidth" for something as minor as this and was giving the moderators approval to pull the post if they thought it pointless. But if this thread can be helpful in the slightest way, then leave it up.
