	Oct 29, 2002 Al-Qaida has developed a jacket that can elude security checking procedures practiced at international airports, for application in operations that require blowing up airliners, according to a report by British newspaper, Sunday Times. According to the paper, Al-Qaida developers used a normal wind breaker, and stuffed explosives inside the two layers of the polyester clothing. This has to be one of the strangest stories on the Al-Muhajiroun site.  There is a magical belief common in central Africa that a certain anointing can render warriors invisible to the enemy. I suppose the Jehadis are no different.

They think a Harry Potter's invisibility cloak might enable them to by-pass airport security.

Al-Qaeda may already have such a cloak. The media seems go out of it's way to hide any connections between Islam and terrorism -- and 19 hijackers did get through airport security on 9/11/2001.

My understanding is that the latest generation of explosive detectors employs neutron emission. I don't think an anti-sniffing jacket would help with one of those.

This is not so ridiculous as it might seem. Semtex (russian c-4) has been ground up and mixed with latex in the past.

Rolled into thin sheets it has been inserted in the lining of briefcases and so on. I read this on paper some years back, so I do not have a link.

The Germans had an explosive in WWII. A form of Nipolit (which is still made for commercial purposes), it could be worked in many ways, such as into shoe soles, or a rubberized-cloth raincoat. A hard version could be made into, for instance, toys. So the idea of concealing explosive in everyday items is scarcely novel.

This kind of terrorist James Bond gear, though, probably has no concrete existence, outside the wishful thinking of the bloodthirsty wing of world Islam. So far Al-Qaeda has used nothing but normal household items, and common (at least in a place like Afghanistan) infantry weapons. These guys are not ten feet tall. They are not even six feet tall. Mentally, morally, and operationally, they are dwarves.

Each bomb detector costs a million dollars a unit. A trained bomb sniffing dog (which I've read on here are 90% accurate)costs $10,000 to train.

Not perfect odds to be sure, but until the bomb detectors are widely available, I'd feel a lot safer if every passenger had to be screened by a dog before they could get on an airplane.

You apparently haven't flown much lately. Crippled, little old ladies are randomly searched like everyone else (while the folks I'm concerned about are allowed to pass through without hassle).

Joe Foss, a WWII Marine hero who reached the rank of Genereal, former governor of South Dakota, former president of the NRA and 90 years old, was not allowed to take his Medal of Honor aboard a flight as it might be used as a weapon. Go figure.
