Just got back from the second Biden/Clatworthy radio debate, held at an old folks home in Wilmington, Delaware. The debate included a rather ineffectual Libertarian candidate and a lefty-type Natural Law party candidate. I saw at least one other Freeper there. Clatworthy supporters made a strong showing with many wearing easily identifiable red sweatshirts. The most interesting thing about the night was the annoying way Biden sucked up to President Bush on almost every issue, with Ray taking the true blue, Rumsfeld-Cheney conservative position. He did a good job hammering Joe on immigration, CAFE standards and ANWR. I thought Ray could have been a bit more aggressive in some areas, especially when Biden burned five minutes boring the crowd with his detailed knowledge of Amtrak. Closest thing to a zinger came when Ray said he "Welcomed Joe back to reality" concerning the danger of illegal immigration. I think Freepers would be proud of Ray's tough stand on issues that probably don't play with the dopey soccer mom's around here. Makes me wish I lived in Idaho. The Natural Law guy got a few groans with his "Mr. Rogers meets Jimmy Carter" approach to national security. Ray finished strong with good closing that tagged Biden for taxing social security and voting to send $200 mil to Iran. I was hoping the Libertarian guy would really attack Biden, but he was pretty quiet. Afterwards I went over and told him he should have slammed Democrats instead of just sitting there taking Joe's big government spiel. All in all, a decent debate. I wish it was on TV instead of just the radio. Let's pray the base gets out and votes Tuesday.
down here he's in pretty good shape. It's Wilmington that's got Biden mentality and always had.
Just think about 2000 and why Gore won Delawre - it can't be blamed on Kent and sussex County.
