HONOLULU (AP) Hawaiian Airlines Inc. will lay off about 150 employees, including pilots and flight attendants, over the next several months.
The 4 percent work force reduction is in response to continuing unfavorable economic conditions stemming from soft travel demand, the airline said Thursday. About 60 flight attendants also will take voluntary leaves of absence.
``We don't like having to take steps that affect our employees' lives in this way, but the economic crisis we and all airlines are now facing demands aggressive action to maximize efficiency,'' said John W. Adams, Hawaiian's chairman, chief executive and president. ``In attacking all areas of our cost structure, we can't avoid these difficult decisions.''
Last week, Adams said a federal antitrust exemption granted Honolulu-based Hawaiian and rival Aloha Airlines would likely result in some job cuts. The two airlines have said they will begin coordinating interisland flight service under the exemption Dec. 1.
AND they dump the leftovers from last years wine selection on this route to use it up before it turns.
AND they have a tendency to lose my luggage as well!
AND THAT'S UP IN THE COMFY SEATS IN FIRST CLASS. It's cattle car treatment in the back of the bus. Ever get sandwiched between two Samoans? FOR FIVE HOURS??
