Strange that that house kept creeping into your mind at about the time that it was being torn down.

I believe they're called night terrors-

My sister had night terrors, and paralysis was not a part of it. Shw would wake up in the middle of the night and run up and down the hallway screaming at the top of her lungs. this went on for several months.

My mom took her to a doctor and said it was night terrors and that she'd outgrow it. In time they stopped, but a few years they came back, but after the second episode of them, they never did come back again. My sister wouldn't remember them the next day. It was like she was still asleep when she was running around screaming! Weird.

No Snickers bars? When my daughter was young, I would inspect her Halloween candy, and I'd focus in on the Snickers bars, sometimes going as far as opening them up and biting into them. Given that they were now ruined, I was forced to eat them myself. My child's safety was too important.

As she got older & her screams got louder ("you're just using the inspection as an excuse to eat all the Snickers bars"), I considered inventing a small, sickly baby brother for her & carrying around my own Trick or Treat bag: "Could you put a piece of candy in this bag for her small, sickly baby brother?" My daughter said she not go Trick or Treating with me if I did that. She just didn't have a sense of humor.

If you want to have a sleepless night, go and stay in the "Hotel del Sol" in Cadiz, Spain. In room 14 is something that will shake your bed every time you nod off to sleep.

Is that the bed with the metal box attached that takes pesetas and is labeled "Magic Fingers?"

(True story - want to be grossed out next time you go to a hotel? Take a blacklight with you, turn off all the room lights, then shine the light on the bedspread. Certain, er uh, "proteins" secreted by human males glow brightly when exposed to ultraviolet light. And most hotels don't launder the bedspreads as often as they do the sheets.)

My uncle had a strange experience when my aunt, who he had been divorced from for several years died. They had remained friendly to each other, even after some ups and downs over the custody of their youngest child. Of course, (my cousin) he was an adult at the time of her death. She had cancer, and had died at home with her children around her.

My uncle had gone to visit her at the hospital before that, and offered to do some things for her, such as to make sure she got her social security. Neither had known how soon she would pass on, and as I said, they had come to a peaceful time between them, but never remarried. Anyway, he was living in an apartment in a near-by town.

On the night, (or early morning next day)that she actually died, he was sleeping, and woke up when the telephone rang. The caller was the younger son telling him that his mom had died. And just after that call, he heard a knock on the door! He was curious, and went to see if someone was there, but there was nobody there! He at first figured that someone had gotten lost, and realized it was not their door, left. But he figured they couldn't have gone so fast! Weird!

My mom was one of those with her when she died, and she had gone to be with her. My aunt had been like a kid sister to her and their older sister. She had once told her that no matter what happened between her and her brother, she would always be her sister, and our (her kids)aunt. And she told her that their Mom loved her just like she was one of her own all the time!

In 1983 we rented an apartment in Albany, NY. Ours was the second story of a two story house recently redone. New appliances, new fixtures, new carpet etc.. The landlord was building a studio apartment in what was once the attic. My roommate and I were looking for a 2 bedroom apartment but with the price just being a little higher than we were planning to spend on a 2 BR we took this 3 BR unit with the hopes of finding another roommate.(A story for another day) On many occasions we would footsteps walking in the unfinished studio above us. The first few times we went up the small stair to see what was going on. The door was always locked and there was no response to our knocking. I was able to open the lock with my student ID card. Every time we checked, we found nothing. It was just one room so it didn't take long to "search". Sometimes the lights were on, sometimes not. After several times we learned to ignore these strange sounds unless we had company when they occurred. Then we would show our guests that there was no living being upstairs. Turns out that the house was totally redone because of a fire which claimed one life. In the basement of this house we found a roll-up type desk with bumper stickers from all over the US on it. It was in poor condition and did not belong to us or the people renting the first floor. We asked the landlord if we could have it and he said sure, it wasn't his either. We arranged to have it removed and once it was gone we never heard the walking above us again. I believe this desk must have belonged to the person who died in the fire or someone associated with him.
