I have mixed thoughts about that. First - I played baseball through college and aluminum bats are more potent offensively. They do allow you to hit the ball further, more consistently - it is my feeling that they are more forgiving and have a larger sweet spot. They are also made lighter and stronger allowing for more bat speed which is, in my opinion, what allows you to hit the ball harder. Wooden bats require more skill and do break quite easily by comparison.
I used a wooden bat occasionally in highschool - it was fun to be different. But when it came down to it I had to use aluminum to compete.
All that being said - if wooden bats diminish offensive production (noticeably) then I'm against the elimination of aluminum bats. heck - I think it would be cool to use them in the pros!

I believe the Kennedy's have killed and injured more people in Massachusetts than aluminum bats.

Since they appear to be more dangerous to onlookers, I suggest that we register aluminum bats and bat owners - possibly even bat boys/girls as they are 'enablers' of the potential batters. Bat fingerprinting might also be a good thing.

I'm sorry - but that "thunk" sound is annoying - I prefer the sound of the wood bat.

Aluminum! For the environment and for the children! Don't they make aluminum bats from aluminum trees? My Christmas tree is aluminum.

This should be filed under the "right thing, wrong reason, wrong way" catagory.
I am probably one of the very few British aficionados of baseball (my team is the Cleveland Indians). I hate aluminium bats. The "ping" cannot compare to the satisfying crack of the ball against a Louisville Slugger. It's nearly as bad was using Astroturf instead of real grass.
I have tried out both wood and aluminium. Wooden bats are less forgiving, but oh what a feeling when you get it right, and hit that ball a long way.
Regards, Ivan

First they came after aluminum pots and pans, and we didn't resist. Then they came for the aluminum bats, and we let them take those too. By the time they banned our aluminum foil hats, no one had the will to stop them.

Don't they make aluminum bats from aluminum trees? No. From discarded tin-foil suits.

A better solution, if they let kids play who can't pay attention, is body armor, both when batting and when fielding.

I hate the sound of an aluminum bat. The sound of a wood bat is much more satisfying.

I think it would be cool to use them in the pros! No, no, a thousand times NO! I used to watch pro games in Japan, where they are not only allowed but nearly universal - some Gaijin use the wooden ones but few native players do. The CRACK! of a wooden bat is sexy, invigorating, and makes you want to buy beer and eat peanuts, the "ping" of an aluminum one is as deflating as a glance up Hillary's skirt. It is evil, communist, and will drain the vital bodily fluids of our youth and cause the fracture and downfall of all of Western society. Do you WANT to see famine, pestilence, and locusts cover this country? DO YOU WANT TO SEE OUR CITIES IN FLAMES??? DO YOU WANT TO DOOM OUR YOUTH TO BECOME MINCING, FAIRY SOCCER-PLAYERS?!??!!!???
I thought not.
Aluminum bats indeed...

What are the rules to Cricket? Does anyone understand?

I think aluminum bats do increase the speed of the ball, but not enough to make much of a difference in little-league and scholastic games. OTOH, given the size and power of the pros these days, using aluminum bats at that level would probably produce several dead third-basemen... ;)
