I understand from reliable sources that Zevon will be performing Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, Genius, and one other song.

Letterman and Zevon are obviously very close. Dave even contributed some vocals on Zevon's Hit Somebody (aka The Hockey Song).

Dylan has been covering Zevon songs recently. He performed two when I saw him in Kansas City two days ago.

"Excitable Boy" was one of the most cleverly scripted albums of the 70's. Admittedly, during that drought, the competition wasn't exactly stiff, but Zevon proved himself with witty ditties like the title song, "Lawyers, Guns, & Money," and "Werewolves." He's an inspired writer with a wry sense of humor, sort of Bob Dylan meets Jimmy Buffet.

Hmmmm - I guess I should figure out how to program the VCR. I end up doing that every year or three.

So which is it, "operable," or "untreatable"?

Well, I went home with the waitress
The way I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians, too

I was gambling in Havana
I took a little risk
Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this

I'm the innocent bystander
Somehow I got stuck
Between the rock and the hard place
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck

Now I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The shit has hit the fan

Send lawyers, guns and money...

Poor Warren, he will be missed...

It was very nice of Dave to give his friend one last send-off. I've never seen anything like that before on TV. Touching, bittersweet, surreal; yet a great way to send off a great artist.
