COPENHAGEN, 30 oct (AFP) - The emissary of the Chechen independent president Aslan Maskhadov, Akhmed Zakaïev, was stopped(arrested) during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in Copenhagen by the Danish police at the request of the Russian authorities, announced the police in a communiqué.

He(It) is soupconné by Russia to be one from the planificateurs of the taking of hostages to the théatre of Moscow and to have participated in several terrorist actions, according to the Danish chain(channel) TV2.

The Russian authorities asked since Friday for his(her,its) arrest, before the opening of the " Chechen world congress ", on Monday in Copenhagen, in which he(it) had participated as Mr Maskhadov's emissary.

But the Danish police asked in Moscow for the supplementary information to justify its arrest. This information was supplied on Sunday, and were enough considered grave to decide on his(her,its) arrest, according to TV2.

He must be presented during the day in front of the parquet(public prosecutor's department), which will decide on its stake in temporary detention or on its liberation.

Russia asked for its extradition. This one, in case he(it) would be maintained in detention, will be decided by the Danish justice.

Moscow had exhorted the Danish government to forbid the holding(dress) of this " Chechen world congress ", which ended on Tuesday, grounds that some of his(her) participants are terrorists.

In front of refusal of Copenhagen, the Russian president Vladimir Poutin has annnulé his official visit, on November 12th, in Denmark.
