Perhaps he needs to attempt to escape again, so this whole sorry episode can be ended permanently, if you get my drift!
Not when they're being questioned. That's usually done in a small room with a table and a couple of chairs, usually with one way glass, and if they have it, a videocamera hidden away somewhere.
No surprise he tried to escape. I've heard of guys going out windows, making a dash for the door--I think Hank Carr down in Tampa hid a handcuff key on him, unlocked his handcuffs & managed to get a gun away from one of the cops. He killed two detectives and another cop during the police chase & when they had him cornered, committed suicide. When we had our old jail and they'd have to walk the prisoners from the jail to the courthouse outside & after a few prisoners boogied, they started making them wear jail slippers (hospital slippers) & not shoes because the deputies were getting sick of chasing prisoners around the courthouse square. At the maximum security prison, two recent escape attempts are memorable: one where two guys spent an indordinate amount of time braiding dental floss into a rope and another where they used a long industrial vac hose. In the first one, one guy lost his grip & broke his arm & his screams drew the guards; in the second, they lowered the vacuum cleaner hose right past a window in the administrative offices & the guards were waiting for them when they landed.
The point is that when someone is desparate--and the kid may well have been told what he was facing--that person will do anything to get away.
