Why? They have their man. Move along now.
Off the top of my head here's what went wrong:
* didn't kick out Lee M when they found out he was here illegally
* LEOs didn't listen to the director of the homeless shelter in Bellingham raising questions about John M
* also on Dateline an acquitance of both them noted that they talked about killing cops when they worked out at the YMCA. He reported this, and still nothing
* What's the deal with having stolen credit cards and not having them revoked? Maybe I'm missing something there
* the government seemed to drop the ball after loaning $25k to John to start his own garage, he ran into some trouble and didn't pay it off. Did they let him slide?
* what other police activity happened down in Alabama after the shooting?
* the extreme tunnel vision on the white van (which was bound to happen as there are 100k of them in that area) ignored reports of a dark Caprice
* did his wife have a complaint against him for battery when he bought the Bushmaster? He shouldn't of been able to buy it then.
* What means did John M have to support himself when in Maryland? How can he buy a car and register it? Was he a resident of New Jersey? Any employment history?

I heard he contacted the FBI. This was all in the same article I read here yesterday. Interesting isn't it?

The Director of the Lighthouse Mission contacted the FBI in OCtober 2001 to report Muhammed. He told the FBI that he had reason to suspect Muhammed was a member of a TERRORIST ORGANIZATION!!!!

His concerns were the same ones we have raised - how many homeless men do you know that frequently fly to places like Denver, New Orleans, and the Carribean -- and when they return have wads of cash.

Also, his family claims they had not seen him in over 10 years until he showed up in Baton Rouge in August, yet this man and others said that Mr. Muhammed regularly traveled to LOUISIANA!
