[history]
The Bushmaster catalog contained many .223 cal. rifles which deliver "all the accuracy Bushmaster is famous for," whether the targets are paper bullseyes or varmints -- or, allegedly, 13 humans in the Washington area.
The catalog was open, though, to pages filled with replacement barrels.

The Dems have just the solution for this one, BARREL CONTROL. We'll have legislation to close the GUN SHOW BARREL LOOPHOLE.

"So if you shoot yourself in the leg, will you sue me?" asked Badabak. "I asked the Department of Justice if people could sue, and they just said, 'We'll back you up."'
In response to the DOJ: "If seen they way they Department of 'Justice' operates and backs up the Bill of Rights and you're scaring the hell out of me!" A case of cruel and unusual punishment. Though I suspect its more usual than unusual.

A few weeks ago when ballistic "fingerprint" became a buzzword topic I said about the same. First, look-busy politicians in congress create the ballistic "fingerprint" law. Then, follow it with several other look-busy laws that back up the first ballistic "fingerprint" law.

Well, soon they will be demanding that we change over to the euro way of serial numbering firearms. They number the barrel, not the receiver/frame.

Looks like ya "outdrew" me. ; ) (Thanks for the bang bump!) : )
To: mamelukesabre
That will work to mate a barrel to a retrieved slug, but won't do a thing if you are trying to link a spent case to a rifle. Change the extractor, polish the ejector, put a ding in the bolt face, and that is washed up.

It's silly to argue about how effective this is. It is 100% effective at it's real purpose: create a national firearms registration database. You don't suppose they're just going to record the "fingerprint" and serial #, do you? No, the BUYER'S NAME will be on that form as well. Voila, Sarah Brady & Josh Sugarmann's dream come true, while we argue about how easy it is to change a "fingerprint".

"I asked the Department of Justice if people could sue, and they just said, 'We'll back you up." Is that like "the check's in the mail"?

For ammo in the war against ballistic databases, please pass on this wonderful Flashbunny presentation that explains the issue quite succinctly and dramatically to those that are not in the know:
http://www.flashbunny.org/content/ fingerprint.html
After that, if you need concrete facts and references, please see the site chance33_98 and myself created to collate ballistics data.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

I would not own a bushmaster, perfer a Colt AR 15 instead.
In regards to the liberal leaning pinkos who want my guns and bullets and have the bullets first.
To: American Preservative
you mean they are going to Profile guns? if all those poor little guns have come here illegally, isn't that an ACLU issue?

One thing nobod has mentioned is that the reporter wrote an even-handed story, and the paper ran it. I suspect neither the reporter nor his editor like guns- good for them to go against the herd (and possibly their own beliefs) and print the truth.

Rob Morse is a flaming liberal working for a very liberal newspaper in a very liberal town. Morse is simply spewing out the old liberal line. There would never be a pro gun article in the SF Chronicle.
