SACRAMENTO - Former Gov. Pete Wilson emerged from self-proclaimed ``hibernation'' today to raise money for Republican Bill Simon, but ended up creating a minor furor by criticizing Latinos who were protesting the GOP leader's anti-illegal immigration stance.

With a dozen demonstrators jeering outside, Wilson joked before the fundraiser that he missed his critics.

My question is: how many average Californians would have given a flying fig whether Wilson endorses Simon or not?

But the typical California voter is just starting to think about the election, perhaps!

I'll ping the list.

I like the stuff Wilson pushed for, particularly 187 and 209.

But dear God, WHY? Simon managed to find the only person more hated than Davis in this state. Was Charles Manson too busy to check out of Vacaville for a while?

Lord knows, I despised Wilson, but his appearing with Simon will possibly remind the vast majority that as dumb as Wilson was... He left the State with an $8,000,000,000 SURPLUS!!!

Simon's lack of political experience will not hurt as much if some experienced Republican executives, including Rudy and "W" are seen to be rallying around him and supporting him for Governor of the most un-governable State in the Union!!!

Lord help us... It's gonna be a mess if Simon wins, but it'll be an abortion if Gray get's another four years to keep flubbing up!!! And everybody knows this is true!!!

Did you read the statement of the Long Beach Press Telegram when they said they were endorsing Simon?

Gubernatorial Dilemma

When the patient is as ailing as the state of California, the least we can ask of the physician is to do no harm. It is in that spirit that we endorse Bill Simon for governor.

.......snip.....

Simon is just what the patient needs.

"Did you read the statement of the Long Beach Press Telegram when they said they were endorsing Simon?"

Yes, I did. And as I said earlier: "Game over November 6, 2002. Simon with 50%, plus one vote!"

Ernest, this thing is so up in the air, it's gonna be Coastal Metro CA, vs. less heavily populated Inland Rural CA. The political paradigm in this state has changed from north against south as I've been saying since I joined FR.

I remember you feeling bad when I said the next effort to split the State should divide it by making all counties with access to the coastline and international borders, including those with inland ports one state called Coastal CA and all the rest of the counties should be a new state called Sierra Republic!

Lately, I've seen Dan Walters and other pundits finally saying pretty much the same thing. We have a "Culture Clash" in this state and the 2000 election map, with it's red and blue counties proves it!!!

California could "easily" be divided into 4 or 5 states. Hell, Let MeXico and all the illegals have their Aztlan state in the south, LA valley can be its own state, The Central Valley can be one (Ha!), The Sierra range , and the Coastal range and beaches as you mentioned.

This one state is overwhelmed with too damn much diversity and growth in an uncontrolled binge mode.
