An angry letter found tacked to a tree behind a restaurant where the sniper wounded a man last weekend complained of six failed attempts to reach police, and threatened more killings -- of children in particular -- if millions of dollars were not deposited in a bank account within two days, according to law enforcement sources.
The letter listed half a dozen calls that had been "ignored" by operators answering phones at the command center in Rockville, the Montgomery County police station and the FBI. It even named some of the people who had taken his calls.
They had hung up, the letter stated; that was "incompetent."

it said "five more lives" to be specific; "Sources" say that the person on the police's end of the line hung up because he didn't know how to handle the situation. I don't know whether that's true (and you can never tell since it's CNN...yes, I know how terrible of me but they get no fox news up here) but if it is then that is outrageous. Five more people are going to die because the police hung up and there's not much we can do about it.

Good. Being ignored is what really gets to the ego of people like this. I'd recommend it to everyone. The more he's ignored the more he is likely to try something really risky and in so doing, increase his chances of being caught.
If one penny is deposited in this account I will be seriously ticked off.

I thought the "Feds" were running the back office??
This should quell the folks calling for a federal takeover.....
It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.....
To digress, when the Fed's were looking for Eric Rudolph in the NC Mountains, my vacation home was not far from their command center.....
My 9 year old son and would laugh as we watched four agents in a rental car drive slowly up and down the densely wooded mountain roads with their windows up and their airconditioner on full peering out the windows hoping to see something.....Every once and a while, we'd target shoot in the backyard with a ".223" to watch the helicopter fly over trying to locate the source of the gunfire.
IMHO, local detectives are the best resource to catch this killer.

"If you're the sniper press press 1" -- what's the problem, hasn't the sniper tried calling Verizon lately?

I don't think the cops are communicating with the real sniper.
Chef moose iz being had by extortionist!
I keep listening to the contradictions from the chief.
If I were the people or person he's negociating with I would be frustrated and pissed off. Then go shoot more people to show him "da sniper" means business.
That doesn't seem to be the case here. Yes I know that the "so called sniper" has accused the chief of hanging up on him 5 times thus causing 5 more deaths.
The shooting are still coming at the same intesity.
I think that if the real sniper was really demanding a ransom, he would escalate the shootings.
Also: Communication is going to cause the real sniper to get busted. The real sniper has a written procedure to follow. He will not deviate from it, unless he has a stupid or/and partner will less disipline. They may even be fueding about this and since it is too difficult to snipe alone, he may get busted by going it alone.
OR
His greedy partner will get busted and turn on him.
Bottom line is they won't get caught unless they screw da pooch big time!
I believe that while the chef is pussyfooting around with these phony snipers, some armed citizen with cajones is going to hear a shot, charge at the sniper and kill him with a pistol because he may be going it alone.

I keep thinking this an allusion to the WTC warnings ignored by the FBI and others.

ROFL yeah it is sooooo funny how many freepers are begging for the Feds to take over this case - yet these same freepers are the first to post about how incompetent the Feds are. Can't have it both way folks...

"The real sniper has a written procedure to follow."
How do you know?
To: EggsAckley
The letter was neatly printed on lined paper and included a number of grammatical errors, including sentence fragments and misspellings, said sources. This narrows it down to 80% of the population of the U.S.

Most killers like this get bored and are looking to communicate and end the spree after a while. He tried and was rebuffed so he killed several more people in anger.
People who think making this guy more angry is a cool think to do are nearly as psychotic as he is.

Thats great, so the Sniper can't write english, and Chief Moose can't speak it.
They need a translator.

From the full article: "Several people who had seen photocopies of the letter said the amount demanded was $10 million."
Does this remind anyone else of Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies demanding (gasp) one MILLION dollars? I can't believe this guy is killing people for such a paltry sum. (Not that I would turn down $10 million, but the number seems small for one with so much leverage.)
To: GodsLittleOne
With the FBI and other agencies being in charge of this behind the scenes, this story is most likely bogus. I highly doubt the guy would not know what to say and hang up! Ridiculous.
To: GodsLittleOne
Five more people are going to die because the police hung up and there's not much we can do about it. That's right - it's the POLICE pulling the trigger, not some sicko who, it turns out, is even worse than a sicko - he's doing it to get rich, not even for a belief...

Just thought I better clarify that I was not directing my "ridiculous" comment at you, rather at CNN's broadcast!
