NEW YORK -- Did "firing" Ann Coulter lead to the departure of the editor who axed her?
"I don't think that had anything to do with it," said Bob Unger, who -- in what he described as a "mutual" decision -- stepped down Monday as executive editor of the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa.
Early last month, Unger dropped Coulter from the newspaper's column lineup, arguing that her syndicated commentary was "mean." This decision infuriated many fans of the conservative Coulter, though Unger said "80 to 85%" of the more than 5,000 e-mails he ultimately received supported his decision. "I know that doesn't represent the general population, but it represented the people who wrote me," he told E&P Online.
So why did Unger and the Centre Daily Times part ways? Unger, who was reached at home, said there was "a difference in style and objective" between him and Henry Haitz, who became publisher of the paper several months ago. Unger declined to give specifics, noting that he was not allowed to do so under his separation agreement.
Unger, who had been executive editor for 2 1/2 years, said he had no immediate job prospects but was working on his second novel.

A few points about Mr. Unger,
He lied about her column. It was about a number of out of touch left coast liberals, ONE of whom Steve Bing litters bastards with impunity. Unger made it look like she examined ALL of their sex lives. It was mostly on how the families Democrats revere are not like normal people.
That was so he could brand her a hater and we all know that's what they use to justify silencing an opinion they disagree with. "You don't have to listen to haters."
Look over his "editorial" and it's more like one of Stalin's show trials.
In his own paper, his reporter noted that Unger refused to debate Coulter. To be fair, Coulter decided to pass on the show. Probably due to the short notice. The CDT's announcement that day admitted that it was short notice and the exact nature of Unger's appearance was "TBD".
The Friday after Ann's "firing", Unger had an op-ed by PAT IRELAND on Title XI in her place. That alone is grounds for involuntary commitment to some institution.
The paper's comic section ran Boonedocks, Doonesbury and I believe a third hard left POV strip, but no consrvative ones like Mallard Filmore or The Leftersons.
Right now, at the CDT's website, a search on "coulter" yields no results.
Given FR and other conservative sites, I seriously believe Unger flat out lied about the numbers and percentage of emails he received supporting his move.
Liberals like Unger and Donahue piss off people who deal in reality and pay the freight. This time it caught up with one.
So much for those who crow that they "fired" a syndicated columnist, when all that happened is that they dropped their subscription.

That left-wing liberal will make it big on another left-wing liberal daily. There's one in just about every major city on the East coast. But all of those dailies are dying so say good-bye to Bob Unger.
To: Gamecock
what got him fired must have been that sexist, patronizing, belittling "...get your pretty face on television..." crack.
It is always pleasant to see a leftist butthead violate his own Holy Writ, isn't it?
She is somewhat too religious for my tastes, and sometimes takes things farther than where logic and facts would halt. However, even given this, she is a paragon of rational thought and model of humility when compared with her Leftist opponents.
On top of being a turbobabe.
Ann intimidates me. This is not easy to do. She is a stricter constitutionalist and stronger conservative than I, and that is indeed a rarity. She is filled with what can only be described as indomitable force, and she is quite awesome when in full wrath.
So, yes, she intimidates me, and I wish I had one shot in a trillion of mating her for life. The thought of the children we could have and raise... damn, the leftists should make obeissance unto God and thank Him for providing that Ann and I shall never so commingle.

THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE THREAD.
I agree with just every post here. Madame, Rondog, all good points. I don't think we'll see this creepoid's first, second, or eighth novel anywhere but in the gutter.
Write on, Ann!

Wait, stop.
This perforce is my favorite thread -- all about how CSPAN may cover our DC Freep rally Saturday. But this thread here is definitely my second favorite.

Just think...
...if only ANN would come the DC Chapter FReep...
...and we captured it all on C-SPAN...

I suppose he's "going to spend more time with his family (hookers)" and "pursue other interests (smoking crack all day)".
To: RonDog
LOL, Ron, you really *are* a dog, aren't you?
Hey, guys, I normally *hate* to do this but on the theory that most Freepers would want to know, it does appear that CSPAN may carry Saturday's Support-our-Troops counter-rally (a countervoice to the anti-war crowd). So, with apologies for going offtopic, here's the
link to that thread. We now return you to our normal programming.
As a reward for listening, here's my schtick on what they should put on Chief Moose's phone -- they're asking the sniper to call Moose -- for an answering machine message when Chief Moose is out. It's obvious that the sniper is responding to communicating with Moose, so that leaves Moose on stage for this drama. So what's he gonna do when he can't be at the phone? (I know, I know, someone else will man that phone 24/7, but just play along:)
Hello, you've reached Chief Moose's phone. If you're the sniper. Press 1. Everyone else, Press 2. **1** Welcome, Sniper. Please listen carefully as our menu options have changed. If you would like to leave a message taunting me, Press 1. If you would like to leave a higher audio quality replay of a previous scarey message, Press 2. If you would like to leave a new threatening message in the voice of Satan, Press 3. If you would like to speak to Chief Moose, Press 4 or hold the line and an FBI Special Agent will speak to you as soon as we finish tracing your call.

I wonder what she'd look like in fishnets...

So, is her column now running again? Not yet. But we are planning on making it available to residents of the Centre region via the local public service website, www.NittanyNews.com.

"I don't think that had anything to do with it," said Bob Unger... It had everything to do with it. Unger not only made a fool of himself by blatently exposing his far left liberal bias by cancelling Coulter, but then attempting to justify it to local readers by comparing Coulter's columns to "hate speech" by people like Rush Limbaugh.
He made it worse when he went on the O'Reilly show on the Fox News Channel and made even a bigger fool of himself on national cable TV.
He did this because he misjudged the shrill voices of a tiny minority of extreme liberal Centre Area residents (most of whom are here because of the presence of Penn State University) as the voices of the ordinary folks who read his paper.
That not withstanding the fact that us local folk in these parts have consistently voted to send our local PA District 5 House Republican representative John Peterson to Washington every 2 years with about an 85% to 15% margin.
Unger = Idiot. Good riddance.

Nothing in her statement was untrueExcept maybe that the entire Kennedy family is evil, weak, filthy and despicable. That kind of hyperbole is boring and obnoxious...

Ann can be mean to me anytime.
There's a story about Ann (though it may be Laura Ingraham) when she found out her boyfriend was cheating on her. She went to see him. He wasn't home, so she pushed the garden hose in the window, turned on the outside faucet and left.

"I don't think that had anything to do with it," said Bob Unger, who -- in what he described as a "mutual" decision -- stepped down Monday as executive editor of the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa. "mutual decision":
Boss: "You're fired. Get out."
Employee: "OK."
