I am seeing a lot of speculation about what is going on and a lot of criticism of those in charge, but I really haven't seen a lot of serious suggestions about how to go about catching this guy or these guys, no mattter who they are. I have heard remarks made in jest and a lot of comments about arming the people, but tell me how having anybody armed in any of these situations would have made any difference.
We have a lot of really smart people on FR. I would be very interested in seeing what FReepers would do, if they were in charge, to end this.

What would I do if I were in charge? I'd take every tenth person in those counties and execute them... it might take a while, but I'd eventually reach someone that the sniper cared about...
Well, ok... I wouldn't...

I'm just full of movie references tonight, eh?

Publish the Ponderos note in all local papers and on television. Use the actual note so the handwriting is available. Someone just may be able to identify a suspect from this information alone.
2. Don't just shut down the roads after the next shooting, get the citizenry involved. Announce that the next shooting will result in the tornado warning horn being set off within five miles of the shooting. Ask the public if they hear the horn to stop their vehicles in place and block all ingress and egress. Ask home owners and business people who hear the horn to check their neighborhoods for anything unusual.

I think the cops are going to have to release all notes
(no matter how bad the threats) and clues they have
about these shootings to the public......as nothing the
cops are doing has worked yet.
This worked on the Uni-bomber case, and many more.

I've always stated that a killer with no real psychological motive, striking randomly, not fitting a profile, is impossible to catch if he's smart and Murphy's Law doesn't intervene. I think the only way you catch someone like this is through blind luck.

How about this for a suggestion?
When the shooter asks for a $10 million dollar ransom, respond by putting $10 million into the reward fund to find this guy. Turn the tables on him. This makes it a lot harder for someone who knows something about the shooter to not come forward and claim the money.
