IMHO I think that they should stop playing "his" game. Stop making announcements and using the media to relay messages to "him". Immediately release all the information they have on him including copies of ALL letters/tarot cards etc.

Perhaps someone would recognise the writing or better yet the manner in which he speaks. I simply don't see how continuing to go along with his demands is going to make a difference. There are people out there that are just plain evil and the sooner we accept that the better off we all will be. He obviously is without a conscience.

Actually, there is a simpler way than the Emergency Broadcast System. Simply get a number of these mobile construction signs with programmed messages. Leave them at strategic locations with an innocuous message like "Have a nice day." As soon as the 911 call comes in on the next shooting, switch the signs to read: "Sniper Alert - Please Stop Immediately." That would halt traffic well ahead of police roadblocks and may ensnare the shooter.

I really think Moose is just doing what the feds want and he is talking to the killers via the media because the killers have chosen him. Electronically is probably just code for "we won't wire money". I'm not a big fan of the Moose but people need to cut the man some slack. The media knowing everything may not be in the best interest of the investigation.

This evening on the local news in Virginia area, I believe ABC, they reported that the Ponderosa gentleman was from Melbourne, FL. They gave his name, street name and of course, interviewed some of the neighbors. So much for privacy

It seems the police and FBI would try and set up a money drop if that was possible,in hopes of catching the killer.As this killer seems pretty elusive,I'm sure no offer of a money drop in the standard sense would be accepted,but maybe they will try some other means to lure him/her in.

I've lurked for a while on all the sniper threads and finally have a few comments to make.

First of all, to those that are dead set that this is Al Qaeda terrorism: the facts at this point just don't support this. Now, I'm not saying that it isn't. I just think that such tunnel vision is harmful. When investigating a case like this you have to keep all options open until you know enough to make informed decisions on where to take the investigation. This brings me to the second point...

Lay off of Chief Moose. Having worked in law enforcement myself for a while, I can guarentee you we DO NOT know all the facts. I'd venture to say they probably know who the sniper is, but not WHERE he is. It's common practice for LEO to keep their cards close to their chest. It may look like they are "negotiating" with him, but in reality they are buying time until they locate him, probably using the communication from him to do it. We do not know all. We know very little, but I can promise you that the Task Force knows a hell of a lot.

I agree with you there is likely alot we do not know.I doubt law enforcement knows his identity,or you would think they would issue a photo of the killer so people could spot him.I do not smell Al Queda's brand of terrorism in all this either.Unless they are waiting to make a political statement until later.Moose's comments today did mention that the killer was making some kind of point,which he did not disclose.

The sniper is no fool. But he is crazy. He's going to screw up, and the longer we can string him out in making this ransom demand, the more clues he's leaving.

It's very possible that he has told them that if his picture is released he will start killing more... maybe even only target children, something like that. As I said, we know very little. They have obviously communicated with him a lot. There's no telling what he has told them.

How about this for a suggestion?

When the shooter asks for a $10 million dollar ransom, respond by putting $10 million into the reward fund to find this guy. Turn the tables on him. This makes it a lot harder for someone who knows something about the shooter to not come forward and claim the money.

I really don't understand what the deal is with this. I found the same thing on another thread a few nights ago, where the title was misleading, as the facts where know at that time, and then it just caused the speculation to ramp out of proportion.

That's a possibility.Like you say,there is no telling what the FBI knows.He may be threatening a mass slaying or something of that nature.Hopefully very few of his plans will come to fruition.I'm real curious if there will turn out to be a political statement,or simple lunacy.

Well I guess that would depend on WHO the shooter is. If it is a terrorist, no one who knows that is likely to be motivated by money because they aren't programmed that way.
