Once again, for the gun control movement, tragedy and opportunity were joined.

Just what we've been saying all along - they will shamelessly exploit any tragedy to advance their anti-freedom agenda.

"The history of gun control is a series of lost opportunities," laments Sugarmann, executive director of the Violence Policy Center, a Washington-based firearms policy group.

. . . .

Once again, for the gun control movement, tragedy and opportunity were joined.

Great Post!

""When something truly horrible like this happens and the gun control movement offers limited responses, it reinforces the idea that gun control can't solve anything."

Ding Ding Ding! Blinding Flash of the Obvious for Josh Sugarman!!

"We're in a very precarious situation," he says. "When something truly horrible like this happens and the gun control movement offers limited responses, it reinforces the idea that gun control can't solve anything."

But of course it does solve something. It solves the criminal's problem of coming across an armed citizen.

This article is so full or inaccuracies, aka lies, that I can't take it any other way than just another liberal Commie attack on the RKBA. First was the inclusion of the usual liberal misinterpretation of the SCOTUS' 1939 Miller decision, the reference to the "semi-auto" AK-47 (shows that this reporter, like 99.9% of the rest of them, knows nothing about firearms), and finally the repeated lie about the "gun show loophole". Sorry, Deirdre, but you're just another know-nothing liberal Commie hack, following the anti-freedom path of least resistance.

You need a license to have a dog in most places in the United States.

A bad dog can jump the fence or slip his leash, then attack and maim or kill a child.

My guns have never moved of their own accord. They have never jumped off the table and shot anyone. My guns are neither good nor bad, they are just inanimate objects.

My guns have never run off to join packs of other wild guns to live off of the land.

I don't walk with my guns on a lanyard around the neighborhood several times a day, depositing bullets on the neighbors lawns.

These people need to find some better metaphors or just give it up.

"The impetus for that was the rise of organized crime during prohibition. The first president to call for a national gun policy was Franklin Roosevelt."

That says a lot. One more thing we have to thank that crippled communist phoney for, along with Pearl Harbor, the flawed Socialist Security System, Yalta, Russians in Berlin, etc.

I must be missing something. I was under the impression that guns were regulated. I know in my state we have to fill out forms, have a waiting period, and be checked out before we can bring a gun home after purchasing.
Am I wrong to assume this happens everywhere? I don't think so. If they got more laws passed right now would that stop the sniper? Of course, the Senate is too bogged down to attempt to do anything like that. They must be sooo busy, afterall, they didn't have time to pass the Homeland Security bill before recessing.

"Guns are the only unregulated consumer product in this country," Sugarmann says.

Really? I don't need to wait 5 days to buy a dog.

Liberals such as this usually fail to mention that speech and religion are not licensed when they talk about things that are licensed.

I wonder if they've realized that one of the reasons for their pathetic failures is the fact that nearly ALL of their press releases, marches, and statements contain outright lies and falsehoods. Notice, there is no mention of the laughable "million" mom march which was a total work from the word go.

These imbeciles have built a house on sand, and it's becoming obvious to most serious people. Their success in such places as New York and California only ILLUMINATES the type of people their position appeals to.

Exactly...this is just a rehash of their normal drivel.

The comparison to register cars (only required if they use public roads), dogs (their is no explicit Constitutionally guaranteed right that prohibits Congress from regulating dog ownership), and that the RKBA is about state militias (read Emerson and Miller - it is clearly an individual right).

My favoritie line:

"We're in a very precarious situation," he says. "When something truly horrible like this happens and the gun control movement offers limited responses, it reinforces the idea that gun control can't solve anything."

Properly interpreted, they are disappointed they are failing to profit off the deaths and tragedy of others. Gun control can't solve anything...by its very definition, criminals don't follow the law, passing more laws want cause them to comply with the laws that already exist.

"'Guns are the only unregulated consumer product in this country,'" Sugarmann says."

Guns are the only consumer product specifically protected by an Amendment in the Bill of Rights, Boris says.
