FREEP ALERT - ATTENTION ALL NAVY PERSONNEL AND THOSE WHO SUPPORT OUR SERVICE PERSONNEL

Background: For those of you who don't know, there is a program called Tuition Assistance in which the navy pays for 75% of college tuition for active duty personnel. This program has been around for a long time and greatly assists personnel in the transition to civilian life after serving their country honorably and in good conscience.

Announcement: To my fellow sailors, remember when the rumours were going around that tuition assistance was going to increase to 100%? Well, it just did, but it is not the good deal that you think it is. The 100% only covers 12 hours PER YEAR. The rest of the year it covers absolutely ZERO. As you know, the only people who take that few credits per year are those who already hold degrees. THIS MASSIVE CUT IN TUITION ASSISTANCE CONSTITUTES AN UNDERHANDED PAY CUT TO NAVY PERSONNEL.

I urge you all to call/write to your congressional representatives and senators. Tell them this massive cut in Tuition Assistance is unjust and demand to return the system to what it was before.

Back in my day, it was USAFI correspondence courses.
Twelve hours of college a year? Don't recall having that.
Of course, active duty and college at the same time would
not have been 'active duty.'

Truth be known, it did occur to me all day yesterday that I did an immense amount of whining in that post. Sometimes it's easy to forget why we are here, I guess. Color me embarrassed and I wish I could take back that original post.
