WTOP - The driver, who was about to begin his morning run, was at the top of bus' steps. The door to the bus was open when the shooting occurred, said Maryland State Police Cpl. Rob Moroney.
Montgomery County school district spokesman Brian Porter said there will be no mid-day bus run for morning kindergarten students.
Porter tells Channel 5, kindergarteners who usually take the bus home at mid-day will be held in school until day's end, and will be bused home then.

This guy could have also headed out Bel Pre to Bonifant to New Hampshire (Rt 650). But your route sounds more logical. I was thinking of an easy way out of the area and I probably would have taken Georgia Avenue to Rt.108 and out toward Columbia then Rt.32 East and I-95 North. That is, if I didn't have a temporary place to hole up (say a garden apartment complex right in the vicinity of Aspen Hill).

Actually, random shootings would not disproportionately target baby boomers. Ithey were shot in disproportionate numbers it would be a greater probability that it wasn't random.
That said, the 37-year old and child clearly aren't baby boomers. I don't know about the others.

I bet all those zoning boards insisting on "green zone buffers" border all development might just want to plan on scrapping those zoning laws!
This will come to an interesting conclusion soon. All the leaves should be off the trees/vegitation soon. Nowhere near the amount of cover. The shooter will have to rely on other types of cover.Maybe they will start aerial application of agent orange this spring if they have not caught him by then.

Maybe not such a dumb theory...it might be a different person but with similar motives, which may be to show our government leaders how vulnerable we really are, and how easy it would really be to spread mayhem and bring our country to its knees, should terrorists get real "serious" with these tactics

Dunno, way different MO's, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is an underlying connection...

I have a few questions: 1) What is the source of the information saying the shooter wants money? 2) I read somewhere that the note was written in German? Source? 3) Could his demands be that he wants certain people released from jail? 4) What is the source of the info saying the demand note was in very poor english? 5) What is the source of the info on the direct threat to the schools? 6) Has they come up with a composite of the shooter yet?

He could have taken Layhill amd continued on Ednor...across 650....which would take him to 216....which leads him either back to 108 or to route 29 and 95. I travel the 108 corridor frequently....there are permament cop vehicle stationed on 108 in Howard County now, and many of the routes leading to rte 32. I assume 108 at Clarksville has cams....I know exits off 32 do...particularly in the Columbia area.

I forgot about Bonifant. That would be the quickest way to get out of the area unseen.

Amazing, isn't it, how evil is triumphing over equal opportunity.

Well, how about running on foot to a garaged vehicle? Can someone run through these trees? They looked like a wooded area to someone from Florida where we have less trees. The fall colors look like they're just appearing?

I have to say that there is something to the 'disgruntled (disgrumbled?) postal worker'. My late grandfather worked as a mail carrier for many years, and though not a gun nut, was quite a sociopath. He lived in the woods in a house he built himself, and was quite oblivious to other people's existences. I'm being very tactful. It got really ugly back in 1994, and involved the only time I picked up a weapon prepared to shoot another human being.

Glad to see another KC freeper.

I've been following this situation but I have not commented on it as of yet. I think I will today. The location of the shooting is real close to where I think this guy lives. I've told my wife and co-workers that I felt the shooter resided somewhere in the Aspen Hill area between Connecticut and Georgia Avenues.
Mind you this is an unqualified opinion, but I think I will post it and you all can feel free to pick it apart.
1. Serial killers tend to start off in what they would concider their comfort zone. Near to where they live and or work. Using the Non-hit shooting at the Micheals store as shooting number 1, look at the first 7 shootings and now shooting 13. Shooting 1 and 4 are off Aspen Hill Rd. (1. Aspen Hill, and Georgia. 4. Aspen Hill and Connecticut) Also note that shootings 2,5,and 7 are directly down Georgia Ave and shooting 6 is directly down Connecticut Ave. Shooting 3 is the only one that does not fit the pattern.
2. It is pretty well established that this sicko is following the news and reacting to it. They said our schools were safe. He takes a shot at a school. They said he shoots to the body. He takes a head shot. They said they think they got him in Baltimore. He does what appears to be his most sloppy killing at a Home Depot that evening. Lately they have been speculating that he is moving south. This shot took place back up north and symbolicly slightly north of where I think he lives.
3. Lately, after a shooting there is a big push to shut down roads and search vehiciles. I feel that this shooting was close enough to "home" that he might have returned home on foot, put the weapon away, and hop in the car and head for work. This would also explain the earliness of the shooting. Had to get it done before he had to head off to his job.
These are just my observations. I have other notions as to his occupation, marrital status, and psyche but as I said this is an unqualified opinion and I don't want to muddy the water too badly.

Modern society and the promise of LE protecting the unarmed citizens was always a reach. The sheep are unarmed and being slaughtered daily.
Think it would have played out this way in 1840 with an Indian sniper or snipers terrorizing a settlement?
First off, we didn't allow the enemy Indians to live among us.
Second, when this happened, all the people armed and were standing militias at the guard.
Third the army would go back to the source, the sniper's homeland and burn it to the ground along with all the women and children. Thems the facts.

The 100 megaton solution would only work if congress was in session.
To: Katya
If he was dumb enough to get on 108, somebody saw him. I was just thinking that he could easily get out of the area without getting on 108.

Yup.
