As the Bay Area's most visible proponent of reduced immigration, Yeh Ling-Ling's background presents both a boon and a liability, depending on who's talking.

Born in Saigon, Yeh immigrated to the United States two decades ago after fleeing war-torn Cambodia and went to work for an immigration law firm helping others settle here.

Very refreshing. Yeh Ling-Ling, an immigrant to the U.S., a Chinese woman, and a refugee from communist genocide, wants limits on immigration.

"Yeh's organization advocates reducing legal immigration by 80 percent, deporting all illegal immigrants and denying them services as well as promoting two children for each U.S. couple. The group estimates 70 percent of U.S. population growth occurs through immigration."

Most conservatives who post to this site strongly support limits on immigration yet equally strongly oppose any idea that overpopulation might be the cause of many of the nation's, and the world's, problems. What are they thinking about?

I assume by over-population, we're talking about large urban areas like LA and NY, cause anyone that's driven across this land of ours knows that if there's one constant, it's empty space.

"As the Orinda resident grew more involved in the affairs of her new country, however, she reached a disquieting conclusion: All the problems she saw around her, from overcrowded schools to strains on freeways and other infrastructure, could be attributed to overpopulation and, in particular, over-immigration."

"In other words, she concluded that the influx of immigrants just like her into the United States was ruining the country."

"Although her father owned thriving businesses, he struggled to make ends meet in Cambodia because, as Yeh says with obsessive frequency, "It's a fact: My father had too many kids," giving the last three words a panicked, quickened trill."

"In Yeh's rhetoric, her father's mistake is analogous to the mistakes U.S. leaders are making by letting in too many immigrants."

"We were new to the town, and we didn't want more people here," Yeh said. "So the more I learned about these issues, I started thinking about my work, and I put two and two together, and saw the root cause of all these problems, from schools to traffic, which is we have too many people."

"Yeh's organization advocates reducing legal immigration by 80 percent, deporting all illegal immigrants and denying them services as well as promoting two children for each U.S. couple."

Quotes from the article. Conservatives would object to everything I have in bold-face while supporting everything else.

It's one thing to become overpopulated on your own and an entirely different matter to assume the burdens of another or many countries problems with the populations that they cannot manage. How are any changes going to occur in mexico if the US is a vent whereby those who cannot survive in its native culture can seek relief outside of it? By accepting illegal immigration from mexico the US is enabling the mexicans to continue producing problems for which the US assumes responsibility for solutions.

I couldn't agree with you more.

But we take positions internationally which discourage other countries with population problems from trying to do anything constructive - we oppose all population control policies except voluntary abstinance.

I don't think she's a conservative Larry. She found her way to her present position with the help of a Sierra Club member.

Yeh Ling-Ling objects to invasion by immigration on the grounds of the consequences of overpopulation.

I object to invasion by immigration on the grounds of borders, culture and language.

The immigrant waves will overwhelm everything about a free America, and they will wipe out the American freedoms so many of the immigrants claim they seek.

As the Aztlan slogan goes; "We shall overwhelm."

The irony of Yeh Ling-Ling being helped by a Sierra clubber to express her anti-immigration views is that a few years ago at an election time, the Sierra Club had an internal fight about Sierra Club policy on immigration. The pro-immigration faction won, or perhaps more accurately, the Sierra Club Clintonista Democrats wooing the Mexican votes won the fight.

Here is one reference to that: U.S. Hispanic leader, "We Shall Overwhelm"

I absolutely support the conservative position on immigration. I object to their position on population control in the international arena (see my previous posts).

The Sierra Club - and Leftists in general - are not willing to honestly face the consequences of their position (that's why I abandoned them). They're only willing to take their positions if it's rich whites who pay (not them, of course). Otherwise they cave.

Not to mention the embodiment of "F**k you, Jack.  I'm alright!  Pull up the ladder."

She said she learned of immigrant abuses of U.S. social systems and saw how little money and skills many immigrants come with.

I also have personal experience with the scams being run on the US taxpayer by many immigrants. If Americans only knew half of the story...

It drives me NUTS when people respond to complaints about immigration policy with the ol' 'racism' charge.

What Yeh Ling-Ling says makes sense. This country can't easily accomodate 500 million and not by 2050.

What purpose is served by reducing the United States to a 3rd world cesspool?
