U.S. Labels Muslim Charity as Terrorist Group Treasury Cites Ties to Bin Laden, Al Qaeda Financiers; Co-Founder Denies Allegations
By John Mintz Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, October 19, 2002; Page A02
The Treasury Department yesterday designated one of the nation's largest Muslim charities as a terrorist organization because it has received funding from a top al Qaeda financier and its leader worked for a group created by Osama bin Laden in the 1980s.
The government's action means that anyone who has financial dealings with the Illinois-based Global Relief Foundation without Treasury Department permission can be charged as a felon. It is the latest U.S. government crackdown on leading Islamic organizations in a global effort to choke off funding for al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

The islamists at University of Wisconsin Wausau Family Practice admitted knowingly donating to this muslim charity. Where is the indictment for violating federal law and suporting terrorism?

There is a 'conflict' on terror, not a war.
Apparently, 10,000 or more Americans dead at the hands of the islamotrash is the threshold to actually go to the point of making examples of people.
Where in all this is the death sentence for supporting, sympathizing and conspiring with the enemy?

What, exactly, is being done with the funds? This article is vague. Are we seizing them or not?

The ramifications are nasty, aren't they.
Anyway, how could a mosque attendee turn down, in public, a request for funds.

Muslim CharitySo, where's the "Oxymoron Alert"?

"You may not like it, but [financially supporting jihad] is part of the religion," If it can be proven that these organizations are supporting terrorist activites, then confiscate their cash, seize their assets, ban their organizations under RICO. Oh yes, also send the organizers to prison, with no "special status".

How about the Saudi and Iraqi 'charity'/rewards to the survivors of the suicide murderers? Now that's Islamic charity!

Christian and Western charities help all people throughout the world.
Muslim charities ONLY help other Muslims, and yes this is part of their religion.
Anyone who is not a Muslim is considered an enemy and thus the religion prohibits helping infidels.

Global Relief Foundation Sounds like a left wing environmental group. I'll bet liberals have been throwing their parents money at this one thinking they were SAVING the earth. Boy, won't they be supprised when they find out they paid for big bombs that "are hurting mother earth's skin."

"America is going after everyone even tangentially related" to al Qaeda, Nubani said. "They fight the whole religion, the whole civilization." This is typical. Any attempt to fight against any supporter of Al Qaeda is billed as attack against Muslims everywhere. They think that in doing so, they are attempting to use America's "Freedom of Religion" as the ultimate trump card.
What they don't understand or seem to care about is that the American history of religious tolerance only applies when all religions are equally tolerant.
If the Muslims in America want to avoid being the first religion in American history to be utterly proscribed they had better get busy and clean their stable as fast as possible because Americans are NOT in a tolerant mood.

Ok, so now this is where you seem to have lost me. What "religious history" are you talking about? You seem to have contradicted yourself in your closing paragraph.
I agree with you that Muslims worldwide are taking advantage of America and the West's "Freedom of Religion". That is very clear.
Where I disagree with you is that America has only limited tolerance with regards to this. There is no history to refer to in America with regards to this problem. As far as I know there has never been a religion "outlawed" in the USA. Im afraid the truth is that America does not have the courage to face this problem and the Muslims (our enemies) know this.

Now the RSS in India is training Hindus to kill Christians and Muslims.

I plead guilty to the charge of sloppy writing.
OK, let me try again. Granted, there has never been a religion that has been proscribed before in America, but I don't think that means it will never happen.
During WWII, the U.S. was certainly willing to act in a very outrageously unconstitutional manner against anyone with a Japanese name who lived on the west coast -- and to my mind, the stakes were a lot lower then.
Islamic terrorism, in my opinion, is changing the way Americans view religion and is in fact eroding our historical tolerance of religious diversity.
I am convinced that if there is another mass casualty terrorist attack on American soil, that the tolerance will snap and a lot of Muslims will end up decorating lamp posts.
If the situation gets ugly enough, the government may move to intern the Muslims "for their own protection" prior to repatriation.
If you think my views are too extreme, you have not been reading a lot of the posts right here on Free Republic, and I am pretty sure that those opinions are quite tame compared to what is being tossed around in working class bars all over America.

Islamic charity? Is that like Military Intelligence? An oxymoron?
Okay, class. Time for a quiz. Which religion has the most liquid cash for its size in the US today? (I will GUESS that it is the Muslims.)
Next question: (and this is NOT a guess) How many hospitals have Muslims established in this country in the past 250 years? ZERO.
And, yet, there are Baptist hospitals, Lutheran hospitals, Catholic hospitals, Jewish hospitals, Methodist hospitals, and Seventh Day Adventist hospitals.
Case closed.

Good that place is right near my lawyers office and I am certainly glad they are busted. I hope the government goes through their records very carefully because I'm sure some of the local religion of peace activists knew they were donating to the Al-Qaeda Charity Pot. Hopefully then Ashcroft can go after the Arab muslim gangs that have been terrorizing the South Side of Chicago for the last few years.

This article is vague. Are we seizing them or not? And on what grounds? Sounds scary. The government having the power to just willy-nilly sieze your funds seems wrong. I guess that's just me.

Asset seizure is all the rage these days, haven't you heard? How do you think we are funding our "war on drugs".
I am not saying I like the idea -- even in this case -- but the IRS, BATF, DEA, INS and (for all I know) the girl scouts have been grabbing property left and right for years.
