I'd be willing to bet he's missed a few times and no one's the wiser.

How do you do those silent bullets? If I heard a zing I wouldn't even wait for the bang, I'd be on the ground in an instant.

You'd be too late. Those bullets do 3,000 ft/sec, about 3 times the speed of sound.

And yes, you'd be on the ground all right.

Oh, and if the sniper is shooting and missing people, then why aren't we also seeing in-between hits (an arm or a leg).

A bullet traveling at 3000 feet/second doesn't "zing". What you hear is more like a crackling or ripping sound, as the bullet breaks the sound barrier.

And, by the time you heard it, it would already be past you or in you.
