NEW YORK (Army News Service, Oct. 15, 2002) -- The Army's 29th Vice Chief of Staff Gen. John Keane shared the spotlight with world-renowned real-estate financier Donald Trump at an Oct. 9 gala event in midtown Manhattan.
The two men were awarded Gold Medals for Distinguished Service by the United Service Organizations of Metropolitan New York.
The 41st Annual Gold Medal Awards Dinner, which also commemorated 61 years of service for the USO, included star entertainment, military fanfare and special recognition of outstanding service members from each branch of the Armed Forces.
Senior military leaders, government officials, corporate leaders and celebrities packed the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel to "salute" Keane and Trump.
Rock-and-roll singer Joan Jett, who recently launched her fifth USO world tour, was joined by Miss Universe Justine Pasek, a 22-year-old native of Panama City, Panama and actress Joyce Randolph, remembered for her portrayal of Trixie, wife of "Ed Norton" on television's historic "The Honeymooners" comedy series.
