In anticipation of a US strike on Iraq President Saddam Hussein has begun removing gold bars and valuable works of art from Baghdad to the remote northwestern town of Abu Kamul near the border with Syria, a German newspaper reported on Sunday.
Several trucks laden with gold bars and artworks from museums in Baghdad and the northern city of Mosul travelled under heavy guard to Abu Kamul, where they were met by Syrian and Jordanian businessmen, the Sunday newspaper Welt am Sonntag cited Iraqi opposition and Western intelligence sources as saying.
European diplomats in Damascus confirmed "the traffic of heavy trucks between Syria and Iraq has increased sharply in the past few weeks -- in both directions," the newspaper added.
The United States has threatened military intervention in Iraq if Baghdad refuses to comply with UN resolutions on disarmament.

We need to tell Syria that they have to hand this over or our troops don't stop at the border.

What, you want to fight a war over Iraqi art?

Chemicals are very artistic.

Ah, yes, the artworks. Actually, he's probably already sold anything of value. But since the Religion of Peace hates images, I guess he's cool with them...

The only thing he has that may be of real value to him is in his pants and he needs a dose of Viagra to make that functional.

Syria is next on the list. Why not?

They are on the list anyway. If they hand us a reason to bump them up a couple of notches, why not?
BTW I don't think this would be the kind of "art" you hang on your wall. It all depends on what your definition of the word "art" is. Think pretty mist of death wafting gently across Manhattan
He is going down, he is going to want revenge even from beyond the grave if he can.

What makes you think Syria is next on the list? Are they a bigger danger than North Korea or Iran?

They certainly have hands as bloody as any terrorist nation, and a much longer and deeper history of supporting and enabling terrorism.

He** yes. The instrument will be in place, and Syria is definitely a charter member of the axis of evil.
To: TheConservator
Glad to see Saddam has his priorities straight - precious metals over people.

I'm sure Syria will give it back if nothing happens, just like Iran did his planes. The only thing these people hate worse than each other is America and Israel.
