I wonder what happens when Talent takes his Senate Seat this November?

There's a possibility that a new judiciary committee could be empaneled, but someone wrote that the senate must approve a rules resolution first. It'd be an amazing thing to see three senators from Missouri in the senate at the same time--I wonder if this is a possibility ?

Two words: RECESS APPOINTMENTS

I think enough feet will be dragged in the certification process in MO that we're only talking about a few days before January 3. And, no, there can't be three senators in the duration. Carnie's out the instant Talent's in, whenever that comes to pass.

And to those who would say it is hypocritical for us to advocate the use of recess appointments when we criticized bill clinton for doing the "same thing" (it wasn't even close to the same thing), consider the critical difference: clinton appointee Lee was given a hearing, and voted and REJECTED by the FULL SENATE, not denied a hearing and vote by the judiciary committee. A recess appointment to fill a vacancy with an appointee that has been rejected by the Senate is nothing short of contempt for the Constitution.
On the other hand, for the judiciary committee to refuse to allow qualified nominees to receive a fair hearing and a vote by the entire Senate, out of obeisance to the special interest puppetmasters of the democrats on the committee, shows equal contempt for the Constitution.
So, there you have it: bill clinton demonstrated his contempt for the Constitution and the advice and consent process, and now his judiciary committee comrads in the democrat Socialist party are demonstrating their equal contempt for the Constitution and the advice and consent process by refusing to allow it.

"Two words: RECESS APPOINTMENTS"
Not enough, I want real, lifetime appointed conservative judges that will not turn the Constitution into toilet paper. That means put the Democrats into the minority with the November 2002 election!

The Senate may be powerless, but we're not!
VOTE!

Recess appointments are the answer but Bush doesn't have the backbone necessary. After all, if he were to do something like that would Ted Kennedy still be his pal?

It's best, of course, to retake the Senate but Bush could have made recess appointments of those nominees not required to give up lifetime positions. McConnell and Estrada come immediately to mind. After the year's appointment they'd then come up for a vote and we could go from there. My guess is that, after a year on the bench and in the glare of publicity, they'd be tough to beat.

So...suppose our great Governor of Missouri drags his feet providing his (what ever it is) approval to the voting results...Talent is elected but Carnahan's still there.

Here's my question:
Why is it that Democrats and leftists can get their agenda items passed when there's a Republican in the White House, or when there's a Republican in the White House and a Republican House of Representatives, but the GOP cannot get anything done unless it has control of the Presidency and both houses of Congress?!
I don't understand.
(steely)
P.S. Don't worry, I'm perfectly well aware that they won't get their agenda through even after they get both houses of Congress.
To: Eric in the Ozarks
Exactly. Technically, Talent's not elected until he/she's certified the winner, and this is what the MO Guv intends to gum up.
To: Cyber Liberty
Another reason his administration is so damn popular here in the Show Me.

Didn't the Senate completely reconfigure over a weekend when Jeffords jumped?

If so, their first act should be to remove Lott from position and put in a real leader as Majority Leader.
Amen. But will they do it? Unfortunately, Lott is a perfect representative of many in his party.

I read that the Governor has a hand in the certification process.
I hope you're right about this one.
To: Deb
If it did, it was because of the courtesy extended by the outgoing GOP majority. Don't expect the same from the Dem's.
