The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home
.
.
A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

"So every "Fri" night I'll be on the boats, in the dark, out in the ocean with the helo right above lowering the rescue basket or emergency pump." How exciting is this!! Can you see the green-eyed monster raising its ugly head. LOL! That is terrific! *HUG* OK, first question: Are you an observer, or do you get to participate in the actual training?
Congratulations on your "well done". And the crewman that got transferred to the base from the cutter: Is this so that he gets training in other things, or a promotion or ?????????
To: Dubya
You and Eve have a safe trip, Dubya.

Good night and sleep well, Jinxie. God bless you good for your service to our country, and for being one of the Bad Boyz here at the Canteen. It takes all of us to provide this piece of home for our troops. Thank you.
To: LBGA
LBGA, I pray your son does get to do that. How wonderful for you to be able to see him.

"Are you an observer, or do you get to participate in the actual training?"
Observer, BUT there is a good chance they will let me operate the radio on the boat.
I have on the Auxiliary boat operated the radio when I did helo ops with them.
I also was on the faintail hooking and unhooking the practice basket on the Auxiliary boat.
It's an awesome site seeing that helo about 200 feet above you.
My main goal is to get more sea time in so I know all the landmarks by day or night.
The crewman that got transfered was due for a transfer.

I LOVE IT! The green eyes are gaining. I am so jealous, no, I am so proud of you for persuing the training that will make you a better radio watchstander. Was this on your list already, or did it just come up? Inquiring minds have more questions.

YEP!
Someday I'll get a ride on one AND spend some time in the air base radio room.
The air base is 2 blocks from where I work.
I see the helos every work day.
