"He won't get caught," the Marine sniper vet who was not named said. "He will have to quit on his own or turn himself in."
That's a scary thought.

If this latest shooting occured after dark, as it appeared to, I'm surprised that no one noticed a muzzel flash.

"But is the sniper a terrorist? Cutshaw says he thinks it's
very possible the shootings have been the work of terrorists."
I believe this as well.
al-Qaida terrorists, that is.

"You don't need a true sniper rifle for shots at 100 yards or so," he continued. "Any rifle with open sights will do. I can take those kinds of shots with most [semi-automatic] rifles on the market now." I'm not sure why the "semiautomtic" parenthetical was added. You can take accurate 100 yard shots with a good Civil War era design black powder rifle.

His shots are not remarkable. They don't have to be considering the victims and the randomness of his attacks. What concerns me most is that he seems to be working with others, perhaps a driver or spotter. I wonder if police are monitoring CB traffic in the area as there is likely to be some means of radio communication if there is a group involved.

I don't see how this guy is scoping out his sites for days considering he shoots one each day of the week...unless he is choosing sites on the weekend.

There is a very good reason why, Chuckie boy. The 2nd Ammendment comes to mind. Plus the fact that it would be a useless law to catch someone like this who would have undoubtedly modified his weapon to leave no such fingerprints. Or did Chuckie intentionally miss the fact that the shooter leaves no brass?
To: JohnHuang2
My response was to this quote by Senator Charles Schumer:
"We let our police use human fingerprints; why don't we let our police use the fingerprint that guns and bullets make?" asked Schumer.
To: JohnHuang2
Another hint: The shooter is leaving no brass bullet casings behind, he says, noting that snipers are trained to pick up their brassGet real...with the proliferation of crime shows on fifty-eleven different cable networks even I would know not to leave brass around, and I don't know anything about guns or shooting sports. Seriously, any couch potato who spent a weekend surfing The Discovery Channel, CourTV, TLC, or The History Channel would be able to figure that out.
Oh yeah, throw in the dozen or so flavors of Law and Order also...

In each of the 10 shootings thus far, only one shot has been fired in accordance with the sniper's credo: "One shot, one kill." Eight of the 10 victims struck were killed. I thought I had read (on FR) that in one incident he missed the target entirely and fired a second time.

"Somebody has trained him not to leave physical evidence," said Cutshaw. Training? It now takes "training" to exercise a little common sense? Has our education system sunk this low?
Jeeezzzzzz! Anyone who watches CSI, or any of a dozen cop shows, or has more than three brain cells would know not to leave evidence without specialized "training."
We are becoming a nation of morons.

Here's an idea:Place 30-50 temorary high resolution video cameras along the main arteries of the interstates. This will allow the vehicle to be caught on tape and might give a hint as to :
1) Owner, from the license plate
2) Exact vehicle description so people can keep a look out for it.
3) Possible identification of this twisted killer.

IF this guy turns out to be Al Qaeda then we, as Americans, may have to seriously rethink how we treat the Muslims in this country and how we can successfully close our borders to outsiders, especially illegal aliens! We certainly cannot stand still while we are picked off one by one.
To: JohnHuang2
This guy isn't even good at tactics because no one is making an effort to stop him at the scene. This guy arrives at an area, waits for a victim, shoots and then drives away.
Where are the tactics in that?
How hard is it to have plain clothes police officers in the parking lot of the Michael's stores in the area?
To: JohnHuang2
If this guy keeps it up long enough, he will be caught.
To: JohnHuang2
"This guy is good, but not as a shooter"
Hey sniper! You see this? You suck as a sniper.
Your only 9 kills for 11 shots in high visability, crowded, urban areas, mostly in broad daylight, with the police, FBI, ATF, etc., and the public on high alert looking for you.
