Peter Lewis' character leaves a lot to be desired 10/09/02Anthony Gorsek
Iam moved to provide an op posing viewpoint to the Oct. 2 letters to the editor praising Peter B. Lewis. After reading the article on Lewis, my opinion of him is that he is just another pothead - but with an obscene amount of money to throw around. What a person does with his money is his business, but allow me to opine that in a world where a staggering number of children do not have their basic needs met, where there are cruel injustices perpetrated on the powerless and where intolerance of other people's culture, religion and opinion is the norm, Lewis chooses to spend his money on legalizing drugs and wasting untold millions of dollars on "art." I am not going to debate the finer points of art appreciation, but what the current crop of art cognoscenti call art is rejected by most sane, rational people. A hundred years from now people will look back and view the "modern art" period with curiosity and disdain. As is typical for a drug user, Lewis suffers the usual litany of mental afflictions: delusional thinking and grandiose ideations. In a town where people like Al Lerner and Sam Miller are kingmakers, how can he infer to be the victim of anti-Semitic conspiracy? I say, go into rehab and put your money where it will do some good. %%by%%Anthony Gorsek%%endby%% %%source%%Cleveland I read with interest the Sept. 29 profile on Peter Lewis. The profile did a commendable job of revealing to us a man of considerable self-absorpton; who, despite his age, appears to be unable to communicate without using the "F" word; who believes that the nation's drug laws are not for him but for others to observe and follow; who believes that his contributions should give him control of the entity to which he contributes; and who reportedly is concerned that people in Cleveland want him only for his money. This last observation begs an obvious question: If not for his money, then for what? Robert C. Weber%%endsource%% %%bodybegin%%Pepper Pike
