The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home
.
.
A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Yep, still at it. We came in for a little break. Then we'll head back out and stay until about 6 then come back out. Today I'll sleep until about 2 then wake up and watch OU beat Texas!!!!

What are we fixing tonight? Last night was valves, I think. How many of you are there?
To: Kathy in Alaska
Still working on valves. when we shut down to refuel the reactor, they rework selected valves, and we have to test them to make sure they work properly. We have another 2 weeks of this.
To: Kathy in Alaska
we have two teams of two and one extra on nights, day shift has three teams of two and a couple of extras. WE have 56 tests total. Dang it I have to go. See ya all later! Over and out.
To: kneezles
Stay safe. ((HUG))

It's hard to believe now, but the 50s really happened just in black and white. Most people think it was the televisons of that era. Nope. It was not until JFK's coronation that God blessed our Camelot with color.

Thanks. I haven't learned any scrounger skills yet, although Google and I am getting to be pretty good friends. I'm so glad you gave the troops and us the history of the Warsaw Uprising. You and Linda and Mr_Magoo and aomagrat and Valin and all the other history buffs are sure making history interesting. And so many of our troops are so young and they are enjoying the history too. Thanks for all the scrounging. And thank you for sharing your Dad's life today. Be sure to thank him for me.
To: Kathy in Alaska
I sure will.
I love History and can't understand people who love math. I'm impressed with Linda's knowledge of history, most women I know, their eyes glaze over when you mention history.

I enjoy it when the teaching is interesting.
To: Kathy in Alaska
Oh I've had boring History classes. I prefer to do my own reading and research. I loved to get into arguements with the teachers.

I have been known to do that a time or two. When you are right, you are right! LOL! Good for you. I hated swallowing information that I knew was wrong.
To: Kathy in Alaska
My daughter and son did the same. At the parent/teacher conferences we were always told how impressed the teacher was because they were always able to back up their arguement.

That back up is so important. Arguing for arguing sake bugs the heck out of me. Some people thrive on it. I dislike it intensely. But when you have the facts, tell it like it is. I'm glad your kids had teachers who allowed the facts from students.
To: Kathy in Alaska
Sleep well and God bless you good Sam. Thanks for sharing your Dad and Mom today. Thank you to your Dad for his service and to you for your service. See ya at Oktoberfest.

Wooooohooooo! I kept tossing and turning so got up to take one more look around for Cotton. When I walked into the kitchen, there he was on the window sill! Hungry, badly rattled, but ok. He had a bad experience obviously but survived it. NOW Ican sleep. Good night again.
