I agree that the name-calling and venom is counterproductive. This is why I despise Ann Coulter and her ilk. They have vulgarized political discourse and turned politics into a bloodsport. They divide Americans, and declare people of different political beliefs to be practically mortal enemies, and not citizens of the same country who are, by and large, working towards the same goals, but with different means.
To wit: Both conservatives and liberals want to end crime and poverty. These are common goals, and noble ones. However, conservatives and liberals differ in what they think will achieve those goals. If they converse and argue intelligently, they will see the merits and drawbacks of each side, and hopefully reach a sound compromise that incorporates the best of both approaches. However, if they scream at each other, nothing will get done.
There are too many screamers out there, and in here.

The presidential election last year, the Democrats accused Pubbies of putting out a TV ad where the word "Democrat" faded out. The Dems accused whoever made the ad of leaving the end of the word on-screen too long, the word "rat". This means they called themselves rats first. So there.

Hmm. A reasoned train of thought. How unusual. Just how will all this Mother Theresa stuff get me anything for my self, self, self; in other words, for me, me, me?

what do you mean?
To: JimThayner
"... do work for others, and such. Organize relief for disaster victims. (headlines: FreeRepublic first on site rendering aid to distaster victims, liberals shocked at being shown how much jerks liberals are" Spend less time and money on trying to talk the liberals to death with reason (obviously that won't work). Spend time DOING"
You must not know many true conservatives. If you did, you'd already know we do plenty of DOING. We volunteer at our schools, churches, crisis pregnancy centers, food shelves, Big Brother/Big Sisters, etc. We believe government isn't the solution, people are. Unlike liberals, we don't wear our compassion on our sleeves like a badge for the whole world to see. It's just part of who we are and what we believe.

Rats spoil and destroy. Democrats spoil and destroy. The description is an apt one.

Should I stop calling Mrs. Clinton Hitlery?
To: JimThayner
Um, why do you use "um" when you're writing? Um, you know, there's, like, no, you know, need to type every stuttering, um, utterance that, like, comes out of your, you know, mouth when you're, like, typing. Um, you can, like, omit things, um, unless you're, like, you know, having your posts, like, transcribed, um, by some lady with, like, one of those, you know, funny courtroom typewriters.

Besides... who are the ones that usually resort to personal attacks? The socialist Democrats are the ones calling Bush, dumb, stupid, or ape-man. Being nice has not gotten the conservatives anything other than erosion of the rights that they hold dear. Its always been compromise on the side of the socialists.
I do not use the RATs label or start the mud-slinging. Its usually the other side that does it, when their arguments are shown to be lacking structural integrity.

If you don't like or aprove of what you find here, newbie, leave. You don't own this site, haven't been here long enough to question what is done here, and there is absolutely NO advantage to being " civil " about the rats .

"what do you mean?"
rdb3 was making the point that asbestos is a material often used to retard extreme heat of a fiery nature. Git it? :)

umm...I'm a little concerned about some stuff on this website.
why do we call democrats 'rats? they call us "repugnants" I think we're above that kind of childish namecalling.FYI.
I'm trying to get caught up at work.
To: mg39
The namecalling may not be productive - but I'll tell you what else isn't productive. The courtesy, civility and deference you advocate would be nice, if we were talking about an honest disagreement.
The problem is that the Left in this country lost the last of its ethical scruples during the Clinton administration.
Nothing a leftist says can be trusted, and no promise they make can be taken for granted.
Leftists have abandoned all decency - to wit, the "election" of Jean Carnahan. The Republican, John Ashcroft, declined to contest her election despite the grave irregularities in voting. He deferred his rights in a gentlemanly fashion and walked away. When he came up for nomination as AG, Carnahan voted against his confirmation out of pure spite. That's how leftists, even if they're grieving widows who should be above such pettiness, repay kindness and courtesy.
They took the gloves off a long time ago. The left in this country hates America, hates Western civilization, hates free enterprise, hates freedom and hates the Constitution. They have declared war on everything we hold dear and stop at nothing to wage it.
There can be no civil discussion with those who want to eliminate you.
To: JimThayner
why do we call democrats 'rats? We don't. We call them RATS. Because they are. They are trying to start a civil war by tampering with elections, judicial nominations, and the constitution of the USA.
