Someone is obviously supplying them w/ food and water.
The owners and/or rightsholders of the land should simply prevent trespassing.

This is the part that gets me:
Rescue personnel were called to the scene of a logging operation in the Ramsey Gulch area about 20-miles south of San Jose on Tuesday night after loggers heard moans coming from the area where a group of tree-sitters has been camped since August, the group said. It was unclear how long the injured man had been on the ground.
In other words, there were other Earth Firsters around, but they wouldn't give up their place in the tree to save this guy. The life of the tree was more important.
Careful what "friends" you choose....

I wonder if his family feels he died for a worthy cause. I'm sure the TREE appreciates his sacrifice.
Darwin award contender.

How do these people make a living? Who pays their way through life? The US taxpayers do. That's why Reagan kept making calls to "defund the left".

If a goo-goo Liberal falls out of his "NO Logging!" platform in a forest tree and is impaled upon his own "Kill Corporate Executives!" signs and there is no one there to hear his shrieks demanding top-cost LifeFlight out to the best hospital available on taxpayers' expense, is anyone really hurt and does anybody really die?
